Best advice so far
This was the funniest piece yet. I loved this advice! I have to say that my experience in the past few years is that brides become crazy once they get the engagement ring on their finger. I've had friends that felt I needed to hear every single detail of their wedding plans - sometimes several times a week. I DON'T CARE!!! Get married ...

Re: To: Frustrated Bride
oh come on! I know it's ''your big day'' but why would any woman wear something like that? Think about it, is she happy with the way she looks? Give her a bouquet and a little jacket to wear that matches YOUR bridesmaids. Let her stand out and shine in her own way! Accept it, your joining this family and she's a woman too! Are you getting ...

Lumberjack shirts & unmatched dresses
It will be 32 years next month, and we still look back on our wedding and recall what a fun day it was. I sewed my own dress, using lace that my great-grandmother had made, and I embroidered the flowers on my husband's matching shirt. One of my brothers showed up in a lumberjack shirt, our dads probably wore suits -- but if they didn't, nobody ...

Not so helpful parents
I am 23 years old and am getting married in 4 and 1/2 months. My fiancé and I have been engaged for 8 1/2 months. I am the daughter of an interesting family if you will. My dad has been married 5 times and my mother twice. I have 3 brothers and 1 step sister. I have not ever had an incredibly close relationship with my parents not that my efforts ...

Re: Walk down the aisle with the Small Question
1. ''We've Only Just Begun'' by the Carpenters (and before you ask, yes, this was mine and it was picked by my mother) 2. ''Friends in Low Places'' by Garth Brooks; ''Here's A Quarter, Call Someone Who Cares'' by Travis Tritt, ''Baby Got Back'' by Sir Mix-a-lot, ''You Shook Me All Night Long'' by AC/DC (recommended by a wedding music planner ...

Insights on gift-giving from my Hong Kong / Taiwanese in-laws
Reading some of the comments in the fray, I couldn't help but notice how much my experience with weddings and parties differed from, well pretty much everyone. I'll list some of the things I've noticed about my in-laws, whom I've known now for 12 years. They were originally from Taiwan and later emigrated to Hong Kong for a couple of decades ...

Re: Potluck reception
It's really unreasonable to expect people to bring specific types of food when they may not know how to make it in the first place. Perhaps they do know some friends or family that can make the dishes they're looking for and they can ask those people to bring their specialties, but if they plan on asking ''everyone'' to bring something, they're ...

Re: Potluck reception
The potluck dinner is a great idea, my husband and I did that for our reception. You may be right though about limiting the options to just ''italian''. What we did was ask people to bring their favorite family dish (meatless since we supplied the meats) and it turned out wonderfully well. We had appetizers, salads, hotdishes, deserts, you name ...

Dark ages?!
Strippers, huh? For the ''thinking man's bachelor party''... Guess we know what he does his thinking with! I have been in the wedding business for over two decades, and I don't know any, repeat any, respectable or worthwhile grooms that would engage in such a betraying activity as hiring strippers and lap dances as celebration of his upcoming ...
