Are we discussing a game of RISK?
''Iraq shifted into the U.S. column after Operation Iraqi Freedom.'' NOT. Iraq remains very much in play. After my second tour in Vietnam, I read some books analyzing the conflict there (and in China) by comparing Go [Wei Chi] to Chess or Checkers. An amusing conceit, but I rarely thought of it. Perhaps it's time for a book explaining recent ...

MIA
It is much better that MIA has become obsolete. Each and everyone of our soldiers is accounted for.

Finally, Someone Fighting Back Against Apologists for War
This is the most important, relevant article that I’ve read in years. But you underestimate public revulsion as a driving force in exposing the deterministic ‘human nature’ apology for war. After centuries of state warfare and the orgy of death in the 20th century, Europe wants nothing to do with war and agression. The American public ...

surprising omission
how you can write an obit for mcnamara and not mention the term ''war criminal,'' even if only to disagree with it on whatever meretricious grounds you choose, is beyond me. in the documentary he admitted that his part in the atomic bomb was a war crime; and he failed to demur from the charge when comparing his actions in vietnam. that he was ...

Obama Governs & Campaigns Like Lyndon Johnson. Great & Risky
What is Obama's goal for his Presidency? -- go long. Other than his Camelot appearances with the First Lady, Obama has spent almost every news cycle announcing programs or ideas of substance. He has not let the deficit stall his recovery plan, although the price tag must have given him great apprehension. He has boldly removed those policies ...

Quit Torturing Me About Torture
In recent days we have seen such a proliferation of news about torture, the torture memos and so forth, that I need not recount it here. To me, here are the salient points, in my humble opinion. 1) Abu Ghraib: Has been over-hyped. The acts were atrocious, but hardly the worst thing to happen to anybody, unless one considers humiliation worse ...

I Remember Doc
Your article brings back a chance encounter I had years ago. I met Doc Humes once while waiting for a light to change on Nassau Street in front of Princeton University in the 1970s. He introduced himself to me (I don't remember what started the exchange in the first place, but no matter) with a succinct recitation of the high points of his ...

Bill Ayers, a TRUE American Hero!
America began thanks to ''treasonous terrorism,'' when freedom loving people bombed and sabotaged the soveriegn British government (who, according to John Adams, had about as much local support as the rebels at the start of the war). Nearly two hundred years later, brave young Germans carried out sabotage bombing campaigns against their own ...

Kissinger Plays Fatal Politics
I agree that it is a disgrace that Kissinger's advice is sought on Iraq by both the President and his party's Presidential nominee. When he was National Security Adviser to Richard Nixon, Kissinger recommended prolonging the Vietnam War for political reasons. Is he giving the same kind of advice about Iraq? Find out more ...
