Toys
Not Robin William's best movie, but it immediately came to mind when I read this article. In the movie, as in real life now, kids were being trained on 120-degree video simulators to attack targets using drones that were actually small toys. What brave new world with such weapons in it.

My daughter has learned history and women's rights from AG
As a mom, I was not thrilled with the American Girl doll books. They are not great literature and they are tied into selling the dolls. On the other hand, they have given my daughter a basic framework of understanding for American History. She also cites them to talk about how girls were treated unfairly in the past. Overall, she has gained a ...

home playgrounds
Having slides etc in the family's yard is a very reasonable thing. When the children are small they will probably play for 30 minutes at a time then be tired and a little hungry which then leads to a snack or meal and then some time with books, followed bya nap. I even had a climb on device on the enclosed front porch when my boy was 3. He ...

Lawns
I agree. Giant toys and little children are just sad. They are as ugly as those green plastic mail boxes in the same vein. Kids are creative and do best when allowed to play creatively. My fondest memories are from both gramdparents' homes and a cousin's home.At the grandparents' we ran through woods or built pine straw forts with sticks or broke ...

Whiny Baby!
You, my good sir, usually have decent articles. But complaining about children's toys? I admit, I do not have the time or space to haul my kids' toys in & out. But it doesn't bother me. If it bothers somebody else, they don't have to look! I have found that petty things such as this do not bother parents. It is those who despise ...

I see pictures of toys on TV news and it would appear to this old curmudgeon that most of the toys are silly trash. One way to make the toys safer would be to just eliminate about 99% of them by not buying them and nothing would be lost in benefits to the child.

Manufacturers must put safety first
This article shows the importance of improved testing and oversight of toy and juvenile product manufacturing. Children's products are recalled in this country on an average of twice a week, most don't get the attention of the recent big ones based on lead poisoning and magnet ingestion. Most recalls are based on design flaws, not the ...

Major omission in "Played Out"
After I read in the article ''third party testing'' I googled ''ASTM toy safety''. It's not worth $64 to me to buy a copy of the standard, but the scope abstract for ASTM standard F963 ''ASTM F963-07e1 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Toy Safety'' reads to me like it addresses design flaws. To my knowlege, ASTM standards are rarely ...

recalled toys
I am confused, as a grandma that has purchased many of these toys through the years, as to which toys are dangerous. Are the older ones made by this company included, or just recent years? Does anyone know? Also, are the toys dangerous if the child does not chew on them, but maybe give them kisses, as my darling little one does?? I would ...

Capitalism to the fourth degree
I have a sister who has never thrown away a stuff toy in her life. She has baskets, sacks and boxes full of them. Most people get cards for special occasions, she gets a stuffed toy with the card. She cannot bring herself to get rid of them. Why? It beats me. Her late husband, with his obsessive habits and tendencies to overspend, bought and ...
