  • RE: the future as we don't know it

Technology, bio or otherwise, is a complex and twisted thread that winds around and through our society. It takes us on great journeys, big and small, teaches and supports us, and complicates our lives. And, as you say, Mr. Saletan (Bill?), how and where it will go is a mystery. It reminds me a lot of the late 90's and the Internet Balloon. Here ...

  • Re: CNN's Hologram

Jeff Thanks for your comment. I agree that some of the technology used was green screen technology that has been used by weather reporters and sports television programs. But CNN did go beyond that older technology. Here is a link to an article that describes the technology in more detail: CNN election night 'hologram' breaks ...

  • CNN's Hologram

I respect the other opinions posted to this forum on CNN's Hologram. It is the first time I have seen this technology used on a newscast, and perhaps the same for most or all of you. There are vast opportunities for writing software that will make nice profitable business but won't be ...

  • drones can't refuel themselves

I agree with most of this story. However, I spent 12 years working on military aircraft. Drones can't refuel themselves, and they can't maintain themselves. It takes lots of ground support to keep anything in the air for very long. So unless Cyberdyne Systems can come up with an army of robot maintenance crews, I think we can breath easy. No ...

  • mining the moon? dream on

Mining the moon is probibitively expensive, fantastically so. The legal issues are irrelevant. It costs millions to get a few pounds into low earth orbit. Getting to the moon and back is fantastically expensive. As a very crude analogy, imagine you're at the bottom of a 20,000 mile deep hole. This represents the earth. You have to lift yourself up ...
