is it 2012 yet?
Obama's first year, full of hope and dreams but not much else. If you hoped that 100 new federal bureaucracies had been created to administer to every facet of your health, it's not here yet. If you wanted to start paying higher taxes, and pay a fine/tax if you desire health insurance that is ''too good'', well you can't start paying yet. But ...

The only
Taxing the rich and only the rich is not going to make US a better place to live. Instead, it creates a dangerous disconnect between taxes paid and benefits received. For the past eight years we've had policymakers telling us ''deficits don't matter'' which is another way of saying ''there is such a thing as a free lunch.'' What we need right now ...

Re: OK then...Business can do anything.
Craig: You are incorrect in applying a quote taken of from an interview regarding the deductibility of a fine imposed by a private organization upon one of it's members employees and applying the same analysis to a government imposed fine. The NFL is a private organization, while Federal/State/Local governments are political bodies ...

Mini Cokes, nothing really new here.
When I was in Europe, I saw smaller soda cans, but they were tall and narrow. Personally I think these were nicer looking than the squat can shown in the article. But size does not matter to the company. They are just jumping on the 100 calorie band wagon. They have tried to market smaller cans a number of times. Smaller cans do not ...

No to sugar tax, No to govenment power and greed
I cannot believe that people actually agree with the government desire to tax soda, etc... under the guise that it is ''helping'' people to chose wise eating habits and to become healthy!! The only thing the government desires is more, more, and more of our money in their pockets and less, less, less rights of the people that oppose them to stop ...

Re: Tithing
Tithing is the biggest lie that has been perpetuated in modern churches today. Tithing while being a biblical concept, is NOT required of the New Testament Church. God does NOT require you to give 10% of your money to an institutional church. I am not discouraging giving to the church, PLEASE give what you can, but no giving in the New Covenant ...

Can non-filers get benefits?
I'm wondering what happens to people who don't file their income tax forms when it comes to retiring. If you somehow fly under the radar, can you collect Social Security benefits? After all, those benefits are based on your income and amount paid into the system, but those who don't file haven't told the government what they made each year. ...

Small point in the "feminism" debate from Rachael
In your generally very good response Rachael, you say: The quest for universal day care, for example, ignores the fact that providing such programs for working families will doubtlessly punish with a higher tax burden those single-income families in which women have chosen to stay at home to raise the kids. That is the biggest red-herring ...

What Happens to the Archives of Defunct Newspapers? EBAY!!
...but it's more likely to donate them to a library for a big tax write-off. (When the San Francisco Examiner was sold in 2006, the new owner donated the entire archive, including more than 5 million photos, to UC-Berkeley's Bancroft Collection.) Although the Archives of the San Francisco Examiner were supposed to end up safely ensconced at ...

Bleeding the Wealthy Exposed
I suppose the Gerson article in WaPo is a knee-jerk reaction. It is kinda silly stuff, when everyone knows that taxes are going for essential government services. Now that Bush is gone, long gone are the days of ''my base'' will not pay taxes. Obviously, the government cannot function without tax revenues. When the government spends more money ...
