Re: Nidal Hassan Motivated By Islam? Groundbreaking!
Clarity of thought is groundbreaking. Not tongue in cheek as the bournite posts, but ground breaking words by Hitchens because of decades of censorship of real Atheist insight. If Atheists write it, it must be wrong according to religious ...

Latinos, Hispanics, and other racialized groups
I find it interesting that the dialogue about ''hispanics, Latinos,'' and other groups who have been racialized without their consent, continues without the benefit of cultural, historical, and social perspectives from members of that group. We are, after all, either Latinos or Hispanics, because American society and identity politics have forced ...

It's about culture, not ideology
I've seen every 30 Rock episode, and it seems to me that it's all about stereotypes as the basis of punchlines. If you try to read too much into the politics, you forget that basically the show's characters are all absurd. Jack should be seen as the foil to Liz, and Liz just as a character. It's more important that Jack ''wins'' as a reflection of ...

Why People Like Friday Night Lights
So my twin sister and I love this show, and I've always wondered why the tiny demographic of Americans that watch this show consists so many upper middle class and (I'm conjecturing here, but I believe I'm accurate) left-leaning/progressive people. And then I started reading your reader discussion forum and I figured it out. Watching shows like ...

Dissapointed in XX Factor's obsession with Clothes?
I've been reading this blog for a while now and generally find it quite interesting. But after the last couple days I just had to sign up to ask: what is with your obsession on the First Lady's clothing? I swear it was on this very blog not to long ago there were posts complaining, with at least some good justification, about ''the media'''s ...

The Workplace: Essential but not Quintessential
The article’s greatest weakness: it’s not an article; it’s an argument, presenting only supporting views. 1. “Jennifer”’s “firm” is not a “workplace”, it’s an office. It has not only a “lunch hour” and a room large enough to hold everyone, but employees who can “lead discussions” and “prepare presentations. ” Try assembly lines or ...

Nation of two
Kurt Vonnegut said it best in Mother Night - when Howard Campbell is describing life with his wife. A double agent in Nazi Germany, every night he retires to their Nation of Two. It is a small nation, the size of their bed. But it is theirs. I've taken this attitude to my marriage, and I find it very rewarding. There is really enough strife in ...

Sexual Hypocrisy, Law Enforcement & the InterNET
Thanks for a very interesting and thoughtful article that addressed current events, came up with new approaches, and put it all together neatly in one, entertaining article. My view on those folks who would employ our law enforcement authorities to charge and convict individual InterNET users, is somewhat different. I see these forceful, legal ...

My Samoan Mother Does Not Need Affirmative Action
An AA surgeon, who got into medical school with lower aptitude, grades, test scores and abilities, should operate on my Samoan mother, even though there are better-qualified physicians! Besides your Native grandmother makes you a bigger victim than me with a Mexican (Aztec) mother, so you need AA more. However, I am especially needy, because my ...
