Especially since we can't always marry...
I'm in total agreement... There's a facet here I don't see anyone else thinking about -- if that girlfriend has a disability forcing her to rely on government support, she essentially can't marry. The minute someone in that position does, SSI, Medicaid, personal aides or other necessary services, any affordable housing options, etc. all vanish, ...
