KEEP CLINGING TO THOSE GUNS, BOYS!
''Red Dawn'' and movies like it are paeans to violent manhood. I hang out on several newgroups frequented mainly by radio hobbyists, and some of the member (almost all men) of those groups tend to go off into gun-wielding fantasy murderous fugues from time to time. It seems to happen when some post or other reminds them of the many enemies of the ...

What is John McCain Hiding from the American People?
Obama Fights Back: Amid the McCain camp 'going dirty' on Obama's association with William Ayers and Rev. Wright, the campaign is fighting back with a 13 minute video describing John McCain's involvement with criminal CEO Charles Keating and the S&L meltdown of the late 80's. Are there parallels to today's financial crisis here as well? ...

What Malarky. HD DVD Format Best Ever --
The Corporations and the Government want to keep the making and sharing and watching of videos all to themselves, because it is a form of their overweening and jealous power over our United States Citizenry. DVD Formats, and High Definition DVD Formats, are by far SUPERIOR to the new Blu-Ray Format, which locks you out of reading and writing ...

Insulting, Disrespectful Title- Oh Well
The title of this movie is particularly insulting and disrespectful. Its quite interesting an openly homosexual artist would use a derogatory slur for a title of a work exploring ethnic sexual curiosity and social melodrama. I assume this is a result of Mr Ball's own racial and nationalist cultural affinity which he might presume entitles him ...

A post-"No Country" comedy
I emphasize with your review, I would have been just as negative if I discussed the movie right after seeing it, at a screening. After seeing the trailer, I thought the Coens' would yet again follow one of their critically successful thrillers with a zany, nonsensical, off-the-wall, immediately critically panned, but destine-to-be-cult-classic ...

Loving plants in flim
I would also like to add Silent Running to the list of films that treat plants as items to be worshiped.

This Is Absolutely Fascinating
I never even heard about anything like this before. I guess it makes sense for the governments to embrace the most lucrative, economy-boosting ventures possible over the more meager ones. I just finished reading about basic film financing on another site, but this is just eye-opening. Thanks for the insights. -K

I was 20 in 1994 . . .
And we really did say ''word'' and ''mad (whatever)''. A lot, yo. And it was a very good year: some of the best rock and hip hop of my generation dropped that summer, plus there was a feeling of empathy for things like environmental causes, gay rights, and humanity in general which was only starting to grow in my generation between '91 and '94 ...

"Now even our most critically acclaimed films are cartoons"
I really don't see what the problem is with great films being animated. Thanks to Pixar, the medium has become an outpost for true auteurs to express unique visions with storytelling and visual style of their own. It's probably true that live action big money films have had their artistic voices squeezed out, but that ''cartoons'' are receiving ...
