  • recruitment goals

Fishy or not the Army is going to have a tougher time recruiting next year. The recovery is just beginning and no one in their right mind wants to go to Afghanistan.

  • The Great Game -- Anglo Amero Brits and Kamchatka!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waziristan Honestly, I do not know why it is, that I both love to read Christopher Hitchens every week, and disagree with his every point almost without exception. Maybe it is his ''the sun never sets on the British Empire'' world girdling perapatetic meanderings around the World Map of Current Events and political ...

  • Re: Life as A Fat Body . .

Hi, I was a PI DI and things have change drastically since your time in boot camp. Not exactly a kinder gentler Marine Corps, but hands off the recruits is the norm and the recruits can't have or get cigarettes anymore during training : )

  • Cannot Fix U.S. Military Without Fixing U.S. Society and Eco

I wonder what the ''military brat'' elected U.S. Senator from Virginia, a Democrat named James or Jim, thinks about your comprehensive and exhaustive prescription for improvements to our U.S. Military. Only a military officer who has been elected to public office, it seems, is entitled to offer an opinion, since remember: our national military ...

  • Prince Harry

Who is Chris Hitchens and what branch of service did he serve in? As far as Drudge, a Walter Winchell wanna-be, the Brits should send over a couple of Special Ops guys and take him out to the wood shed. This garbage anything for a story regardless how dangerous it is is pure rubbish. These two guys would have a problem writing for the ''ole ...

  • Marine Corps nicknames

The term ''jarhead'' has existed long before crew cuts and ''high-and-tights.'' In the 1930s sailors and perhaps others called Marines ''jarheads'' because of the stereotype of a muscular, thick-necked man whose neck was as thick as his head. In other words, they said his head was like a jar sitting atop his shoulders.

  • Happy Birthday, USMC

I certainly couldn't tell you the first time I heard the song, I'll Be Seeing You,'' but I do remember the first time I actually paid attention to the words. I was 11 years old. A Marine, a friend of my father's, was killed in Vietnam, and during the wake, someone sat at the piano in the NCO club, and played the tune, singing the words... I'll ...

  • Does "The Shores of Tripoli" Ring Any Bells?

In the news today, the Spanish Navy stopped an American-crewed ship, the Odyssey Explorer, on the high seas and compelled it to sail into the port of Algiceras in Spain, at gunpoint. Her captain was arrested and jailed, and the crew compelled to remain in Spain for three days while the ship is searched. Why is this important? I'll concede that ...

  • Marines at WTC on 9/11

You state that only one marine was ''recognized''... Perhaps he was the one who remained to accept the ''Thanks'', but fortunately, ABS's ''Extreme Makeover-Home Edition'' producers were better sleuths, finding the 2nd Marine & helping him & his entire family out in a dire time of need. He was given some ''constructive'' appreciation ...
