Joseph Mitchell?
Sounds like Joseph Mitchell would be another candidate for epic writer's block/procrastination -- he published Joe Gould's Secret, then went to the office every day for 32 years without producing another word. One interesting difference between him and Ellison and Capote: Mitchell had published more before he lapsed into silence.
