What about the hybrid factor?
I found this piece lacking a key item - the fact that many zipcars are Toyota Prius models (at least in the Boston area). Given that the primary demographic for their customers are urban, short-haul drivers and the Prius is most efficient in city driving, I would think that strategically this is a pretty big factor. Gas costs are minimized, plus ...

Hybrids, not as good a move as you think
Before you go out and buy a hybrid you may want to look into turning your current vehicle into a hybrid. In recent years many advances have been made towards using hydrogen in conventional gas burning engines. While some ideas seem to have been made by crack pot hippies or your neighbor experimenting in his garage some ideas will actually work. ...

Cool post about hybrids vs older cars with better mileage
I just read the post on slate.com about hybrids and older cars with good gas mileage. I recently wrote a blog post all about this on my new blog at TheGasGuide. Its pretty funny, and informative... take a look :) http://www.thegasguide.com/gas-saving-tips/gas-saving-tip-how-to-buy-a-hybrid-car-for-2500/ Rich

Prius vs. older used car
My husband has a 2005 Prius and I drive a 2002 Civic with manual transmission. He drives mostly highway as we live 65 miles from his work and thus the reason for the purchase of the Prius. He averages 46-38 MPG. By comparison, my Civic consistently averages 38-40 MPG. So, his car is a bit more comfortable, but mine is still a decent drive. ...

What about WASTE?
If everyone buys a new Prius instead of a used car, what happens to all the excess used cars kicking around?

idling engine deviltry
I agree, your engine idles, you're burning money. Hope the hybrid vehicles spread the word on this Years ago you had to warm up the car just to drive away without stalling. Say before about 1955 and again about 1975 with early emission controls. Folklore from Grandpa got passed down. But now when folks hear ''warm up the car'' most of them ...

Hybrid cars are just for smug yuppies anymore
I bought the 500 and something Prius sold in this country, in 2001. It now has 98,000 miles on it. You actually can get between 45-50 miles per gallon on the highway, if you drive intelligently and don't speed. There is this meme going on that Prius owners buy them for the status, because they look different, unlike the Honda Civic hybrids. ...

reseach it
Before even beginning the article is was apparent that there was a biased opinion being presented, not a neutral one. Which is always a prerogative. I find it interesting that the title compared a ''Tank'' with a Prius. Not just a a Hummer, but a tank, which it is not. Anyway, there is definitely a good debate between the two vehicles which is ...
