Race, genetics, medicine--simple test
All inherited appearances would be expected to have a genetic basis. Many, many, many genes have effects that you can 'SEE'. (we call that 'phenotype', but 'SEE' is just so much more viscerally appealing). So, going back oh.... a generation or so, we've found ways to SEE genetic differences in metabolizing drugs (give a drug and SEE if it is ...

Re: Adherence to prescriptions
This was one of the best summaries of the issue I have ever read. I would add that pharmaceutical companies are key to solving the problem. I know of a drug used to treat MS, which has adherence rates of 95%, because of the patient support program launched by its manufacturer. Because the drug costs $20,000/year, they can afford to provide ''gold ...

Fluoridation a Failure
You bought into the fluoridation PR. There is no evidence that fluoridation is the reason for declining tooth decay in the past. During the same period, foods were fortified rickets preventing vitamin D, a symptom of vitamin D deficiency is tooth decay. Fluoride is neither a nutrient nor essential for healthy teeth. Having a fluoride ...

If you look into vitamin D, you'll find that the body requires something like 10s of thousands of IU per day. Vitamin D experts have long been saying that daily supplementation should be more like 4000 IU rather than 400. ...

War on Smoking
Feel free to disagree with me, but I feel that the country is sliding, very quickly, into a man-made safety net. Germ-phobia, politcally correctness, spanking, smoking, drugs, drinking, I think this is all going a bit too far! For thousands of years, our ancestors have lived with germs, smoked tobacco or other herbs and spices, made alcohol and ...

Second-Hand Smoke
Few Points from a nurse of 8 years: In my 8 year tenure as a nurse, we have never had one patient treated, died etc. from second-hand smoke. People ARE NOT allergic to smoke. An allergic reaction is what happens when you touch poison oak. Sneezing is not an allergic reaction. Our eyes water and sting when we slice onions. It would be ...

Nicotrol Inhalers
The government is criminal for not allowing over the counter sales of Nicotrol Inhalers. They produce no smoke nor tar and only minimal nicotine which goes to the smoker alone, no one else. It is the only way I was able to quit a four pack a day habit. It annoys no one, my lungs are now clear and the house doesn't smell. Yet I still have to go ...
