you can't top Fatso the Wombat
Australia had similarly lame mascots in 2000, so the unofficial mascot was born: Fatso the Fat-Assed Wombat. Best mascot ever, and probably the most popular. By the way, has anyone else noticed the cynicism of having multiple mascots so they can sell twice as many trinkets?

Sam the Eagle was awful! Mindless and jingoistic. Misha the Bear from 1980 in Moscow was pretty good. But of course, the best was Fatso the Wombat.
