Air travel is hard to offset
The problem with air travel is that it much more polluting than driving and you go much longer distances. Most estimates say air travel produces more than half a pounds of CO2 per mile per passenger. Of course this depends on a lot of factors such as how full the plane is, but the airline industry uses cheap, dirty fuels and they are incredibly ...

Business Innovation
I think that one of the greatest steps toward improving our environment is increasing the individuals sense of responsibility toward it. One of the best ways we can do this is by supporting innovative businesses that not only provide us with our desired utility but also benefit the environment. For example, I came across a website ...

Hybrids, not as good a move as you think
Before you go out and buy a hybrid you may want to look into turning your current vehicle into a hybrid. In recent years many advances have been made towards using hydrogen in conventional gas burning engines. While some ideas seem to have been made by crack pot hippies or your neighbor experimenting in his garage some ideas will actually work. ...

Why Can't I drink your Milkshake?
Where are all the ''real'' Americans? The ones that made this country great? By subjugating and enslaving the masses - profiteering at astounding rates? Henry Plainview where are you when we need you? JP Morgan needs to be Fed Chairman and how! Rockefeller never owned an oil country and we all got rich! Paying $5 a ...

Massive Groundwater Mercury Cleanup
Is it five years from now when the first big wave of long-lasting CFL bulbs will hit American garbage cans? I understand that it's more mercury in the air today to generate electricity for incandescents than is used in the CFL bulbs today. But our children or grandchildren will curse us and pay billions to clean-up the groundwater polluted by ...

CFL Fraud
The real problem with CFLs is that the wattages are artificially inflated. The reason they cost less to operate is because they only put out half as much light as their equivalent wattage incandecent bulbs. The same savings could be achieved by substituting 60 watt incandecent bulbs for 100 watt ones - with the same result - less ...

energy and CO2 savings
I've got a quibble with Brendan Koerner's assumptions. (''..you could conceivably reduce your annual CO2 output by upward of 2.3 metric tons'') If you heat your house with electricity or by burning something (coal , gas, wood...) the kWH's you save with CFLs, are going to be replaced by your heater. So if you live someplace where the heat is on ...

Re: way better than landfills and coal.
Virtually all materials: nuclear, bio-waste, coal, petroleum, municiple waste, etc can be recycled by using ''plasma gasification''. Convert all of these to syngas, produce electricity with little to no emisions! Want to know more, read my book ''Plasma at Work'' available on amazon.com.
