how I drive
I'm a macabre guy; I drive along I-95 wondering how I could die. What fellow citizen will fail to see me in the blind spot? Which guardrail might play the catcher's mitt to my rented Pontiac? What piece of this car might stick, slip, snap, skip, or fall off? Would the traffic report include my name while explaining the thirty minute to one ...

In (near) Total agreement
My wife habitually gets lost, under/over estimates how much time it takes to get from place to place, can't find her way home out of a paper bag, and is basically the prime candidate for a GPS. As a loving husband I bought one at christmas and installed it in her car. Before the Garmin, I was a semi vocal backseat driver content to stew in my own ...

Male Bashing Hardly Ever Good Natured
I am laughing as I write this. In reality, male bashing is hardly ever good natured; especially when it comes from a woman or an alleged male journalist. The ladies claim it is 'harmless teasing' and we should all 'man up' when it comes to their sexist ribbing and cruel insult. But for those of us that are a bit more intelligent than to buy ...

Computers will soon be driving
In a few years this will be moot. Currently computers are navigating. In about 8 years, they will be driving. Within a generation, most humans will not be driving at all, with the younger never having learned. When computers can drive better than humans, it will probably become illegal for humans to drive. Currently 40,000 people are killed ...

When moms have the freedom
I am so happy my husband supports my desition of staying with my child at home. I just couldn't leave him in childcare. I tried 3 different center after I actually visited like 15. It was just so devastating. I came home to cry all evening for leaving my child with who know who... We couldn't afford for me not to make money, we need my income. But ...

what mommies do
Lots of moms who have decided to stay home because they just can't leave their babies in daycare, either because they find the separation too hard or because after having to pay childcare fees and gas they don't really bring much money home, they are doing GPT sites from home. I am one of them. No, I didn't believe in those sites at first. My ...

Smoking and drunk driving
As a smoker, I've noticed I drink more--and more quickly--when I'm not allowed to smoke in a bar. I've informally polled my (smoker) friends, and they've all confirmed the same effect of smoking bans in bars. I wonder if the ban on smoking has actually increased alcohol sales at the bar. I'm betting it has. If it has, the uptick of drunk ...

"Road Warriors"
I have noticed that the Hampton Inn chain has pictures with phrases beside them that adorn various parts of their hotels. Not sure whether they are meant as art, entertainment, motivational displays or advertising; I never paid too much attention. However, last week as I rode the elevator to the first floor I took a closer look at one of them. The ...
