Re: A draft is the only fair answer,
''Fair?'' You're joking, right? The draft wasn't fair before we went all volunteer. Women aren't allowed in combat units (I am a woman) so where's the fairness there? Gays aren't allowed in the military (DADT aside) so where's the fairness there? That doesn't even get into the basic social crap that went down in the beginning. The draft was a ...

Re: Psychology of a pathological liar.
You are going through the phase I went through a few weeks ago. If it helps my focus is more on the obamakins. If they can get their heads out of their rears when he is doing stupid things, instead of the cheerleading then, we should be good. If not then it's going to be war. And draft.

Military Incentives: So What? Everyone else does it.
So what? The Military offers incentives during times when it is hard to find someone willing to take on combat duties. A) They have been doing it long before the Iraq war often offering bonuses and special enlistment packages geared toward specific MOS's (Military Occupational Specialties). B) Every other career field works the same. When ...

Re: Draft vs mandatory service for all Americans
I just concluded an interesting review of the discussion thread and it seems to boil down to several broad and not mutually exclusive categories: 1. ''I don't wanna'' and you can't make me 2. ''I don't wanna fight your stinking war'' and you can't make me 3. ''I already pay taxes darnit'' and you can't make me do anything else 4. and then a ...

A draft is immoral and unnecessary.
If we aren't getting as many military volunteers as we want, or we aren't getting enough of the caliber of volunteer that we want, the painfully obvious solution is to hike military pay even more than we already have. If it gets to the point where the market rate for some able-bodied intelligent young man to volunteer to go off and fight in Iraq ...

A Draft? But we are cutting people out!
I find it very strange that we are evening talking about a draft. The Air Force is in the process of cutting 40,000 airmen out of the service as we speak. A portion (less then half) of the 40,000 have retired or taken a voluntary separation. The rest, men and women who want to continue to serve their country are being cut. It is called the RiF. ...

Re: FEMALES IN THE DRAFT
Sorry mrliberal, but as an honorably discharged, female, retired veteran of the United States Navy I have to disagree. I and many other women have served and continue to serve in all branches of the military. We do the job and we do it with Pride, Honor, Courage and Commitment. If we couldn't so it we wouldn't be there. Believe all you want the ...

Re: Why is it so bad to protect your country?
Serving our country should not be done as SLAVES. It should be done by choice. I would fight for FREEDOM and die for it if I had too but the Iraq war is NOT about freedom.. and I would FIGHT against ANYONE who tried to force me into it. It is not bad to protect your country... but the draft during Vietnam had NOTHING to do with PROTECTING our ...

Re: The Draft doesn't work period!!!
As a Viet Nam vet and a veteran of BOTH the all volunteer services and a conscript military, I certainly agree that volunteers are preferable to draftees, but not invariably so - does anyone doubt the quality of the troops in WWI or WWII or Korea or, for that matter, the US Civil War? A truly FAIR draft (none of these deferments/alternative ...

The Draft
I read the other responses, some of which were well thought out, while others betrayed the writers emotional hangup. Ponder this: Even though the bonus enticements are now in the Big Buck range, and the age physical abilities requirements have been stretched to preposterous limits, enlistments are down. The troops on the ground in Iraq and ...
