  • PAYING FOR WEIGHT.......

Ok so you start making fat people pay for the ambulance-you say because of added costs. Fine. So make anorexic people pay extra because of the added costs of equipment drugs that is to keep them going till they reach the hospital. Make the suicide victims pay extra for the stomach pumping or the extra bandaging and stitches needed-that should ...

  • Re: obese patients

jazzguitarman: Well it is discriminatory but a fair type of discrimination. It is fair because it is behavior based and not based on something people cannot change (e.g. race, gender). I beg to differ with you. I'm really sick of this. I guess obesity is the last ''legal'' form of discrimation left. You know, not every person is obese ...

  • Time for the Scarlet Letters !

Of course an S for Smokers, but lets add the rest of the life style sins that cause or spread diseases and inconveniences: F for Fatties (although O for Obese would leave room for Flattulence) G for Gays A for Alcoholics and so on... I'd like to reserve D for Do-Gooders

  • glutton intolerance

It is an interesting thesis that we should be much more tolerant of the obese. Somehow I don't think that is going to happen in our lifetimes.

  • Sotomayor Intro

When I heard that each of the 19 members of the Judiciary Committee would have ten minutes to grandstand before even opening questioning there was a big yawn here. Here's what my constituency wants me to say blah blagh blog. If I had a minute to tune in I did and Judge Sotomayor was usually on camera and some of the questions from these ...

  • Re: Spin and spin and spin

Professor Ford's article is an accurate description of the law regarding plaintiffs in disparate treatment discrimination cases. The law interpreting Title VII was created by the Supreme Court, which has indeed made it very difficult for plaintiffs to win -- whether they are white or black. I have been representing individuals in these cases for ...

  • Here Come The Racists

Did any of you actually read the article? Or did you get too excited about bashing Black people? ''But, properly applied, disparate impact law doesn't excuse poor performance, nor does it require quotas. Instead it smokes out hidden bigotry and requires employers to avoid unnecessary segregation of the work force. Suppose an employer wants to ...

  • How Obama might boost jobs for women

I was sorry to see that Linda Hirshman's article didn't propose any substantial ways that the Obama jobs program might be changed to increase the number of women who'd be helped by it. Give libraries and a green jobs corps all the money you want, and you aren't going to come anywhere hear the money needed by the auto companies, Wall Street, and ...

  • Failure to Admit Blagojevich Appointee to Senate Big Mistake

Failure to Admit Illinois Governor Blagojevich's Appointee, the eminently qualified and well reputed Roland Burris, to the United States Senate will prove to be a supremely Big Mistake made by the Democratic Senate Leadership and yes, Barack Obama. News today is that the U.S. Senate will seat 59 Democratic Senators, including their Candidate ...

  • Missing Category: Short People

Well, I know Randy Newman says we ain't got no reason to live, but us vertically challenged Americans want White House representation too! As you can see from this , we've only had four presidents under 5' 8'', and none of them in this century (or, well, the last). What does the majority have against short people? Are we not just as qualified, ...
