  • Disappointed with the article and its premise

The article reveals a distinct bias toward a subset of art - the 'weird for the sake of being weird' cliche, art that is about provocation rather than communication. I visited the Most and Least Wanted Paintings site and found its results interesting. Very little of the most wanted paintings could accurately be described as: provoke: to anger, ...

  • My daughter has learned history and women's rights from AG

As a mom, I was not thrilled with the American Girl doll books. They are not great literature and they are tied into selling the dolls. On the other hand, they have given my daughter a basic framework of understanding for American History. She also cites them to talk about how girls were treated unfairly in the past. Overall, she has gained a ...

  • Re: WWJP?

It would be American-made, wouldn't it. I did find a website hawking some of the stuff, it's priceless in a velveeta sort of way. I may just have to save that picture. ''Get Tight with Christ!''

  • Holiday Season (TM)

Merge Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. They're all getting blended at the stores anyway; the local Home Depot had Santa decorations for sale at the end of August. You have a big meal with your family, hand out presents, and all the kids get a bag of candy. Everybody's happy.

  • Re: hee hee hee

Being upset that the sacred is turned into the braindead for the sake of money is not such a surprising take for a liberal. Or a conservative. Crunchyfrog gets it entirely wrong. If this is politics motivating the bad reviews of Evan Almighty, it isn't your traditional left-right divide. This is a studio that wants to rewrite the bible just to ...

  • Since when is jet fuel environmentally friendly?

I beg to differ with the reasoning that electronically gifting money for a fantasy vacation is more environmentally friendly than giving gifts ''wrapped in styrofoam.'' Here is why I differ: computers use electricity.... which is environmentally UNfriendly in its production and consumption! Airplanes use jet fuel... which is environmentally ...

  • It's a shame

that people have such vestigial experiences of intimacy that they can't tell the difference between ''vain display'' and ''sharing''. Time to make new friends, I think. If someone gives me a book, or a piece of art, it's because they thought I'd like it, not to impress me. My friends have already impressed me, that's why they're my friends. And, ...

  • Re: confessions of a bridezilla

I feel like I need to throw a line to stressed out brides everywhere being pegged as bridezillas. I too watched those documentaries in horror, saying that would never be me. And I've stuck to that. Mostly. The one huge element that all naysayers neglect is what leads up to those breakdown moments for the bride. The cameras and columns ...

  • Re: What, no wok?

That's what I thought. The wok is one of the most versatile pans in the whole kitchen. It's like a cookware set in and of itself. The hyperspecialization of kitchen appliances is overkill.

  • I'm all for equity...

When we got engaged, I jokingly posited that if I'm going to give up 1/6th of my salary to get married, I should get something too. Call it an engagement ''gift''. Like a nice carbon-fiber mountain bike, or kayak. After all, what has the ''marriage process'' become, other than a free-for-all at the trough of prizes, prizes, prizes! It seems ...
