Sex changes, female circumcision, & cosmetic vagina surgery
http://www.slate.com/id/2173262/ OK, those of you who went after me for juxtaposing FGM with sex-reassignment surgery, let's hear your thoughts on this. On the one hand, we have FGM, which the individual submits to (or simply endures) because of family, husband, or cultural pressure, or outright coercion. On the other hand, we have ...

Re: An Actual Circumcision
It's all part of the sick world of people who favor infant circumcision. THEY are the normal, healthy ones. But the people who advocate leaving babies alone and intact, and who point out the inherent sickness of the practice - oh, THEY are the ones with some crazy fetish. It's literally insane.

Re: An Actual Circumcision
Too many people unthinkingly submit their children to this barbarity without even knowing what it entails - every ''grownup'' who would force this on a child should be required to watch this video first. By the way, since when did wanting to prevent children from being genitally mutilated suddenly become a ''fetish''? I call it fighting for human ...

Re: eliminating circumcision
Why do defenders of circumcision so often characterize opposing arguments with the terms ''rant'' and ''polemic''? There is no reason to paint anti-circumcision advocates as irrational fundamentalists. It is part of the inherent insanity of the practice. Those who advocate leaving infant boys alone, and not cutting their bodies without any ...

Re: Why is it so unreasonable to just wait...
rampart: At least cut penises are better looking than uncut ones. You never have to worry about smegma. I would bet women are grateful for that, too. . Do you always advocate for plastic surgery that reduces the size of male genitals? That is the most patently ridiculous argument for cutting I've ever heard. And as far as ''smelling'', ...

Re: eliminating circumcision
Sure, an adult over 18 can choose. No one should have one done who cannot consent to it. Period. End of story. We don't allow female circ in this country. And what right does anyone have to tell a man his own cutting is less extreme than female circ. Think for a minute. Why does the ONLY surgery we routinely perform on infants involve... the ...

An Actual Circumcision
I dare ANYONE to watch this and tell me this practice is acceptable. It is unbelievably barbaric, cruel, and psychologically sick. I also urge anyone with a friend considering having their children cut to watch this video. http://youtube.com/watch?v=XmX6RdRNoqk

Re: eliminating circumcision
I'm going to re-post a comment from a couple of weeks ago regarding male circumcision, because for some reason that earlier posting behaved oddly (the number of listed viewings declined with time). -------------------- As a biologist, I find the debate about whether male circumcision is damaging to be frankly bizarre. Like every other part of ...

Circumcision and reporters
Circumcision is simply wrong. Saletan has a long history of approving this barbarism - perhaps that's why he reported the least compelling study of genital sensation (the Kim research, studying only two points on the penis, neither of which was on the foreskin) but totally ignores the far more thorough Van Howe study (which found that, of the 19 ...

circumcision, biology, and medicine
As a biologist, I find the debate about whether circumcision is damaging to be frankly bizarre. Like every other part of the body, the genitalia have been shaped by strong selective pressures. Circumcision removes a substantial chunk of highly innervated genital tissue, so of course there are effects on sexual function and sensation. This fact has ...
