  • You are in my Prayers

I read your article, ''What I've learned from debating religious people around the world'' with fascination. To provide you with some insight I am what is commonly called an evangelical Christian, but could not be accurately labeled as a full Calvinist. I try my best to communicate in a manner that saves others from perdition and I likewise strive ...

  • Re: But the Biblical Teaching on Righteous Anger

But even the New Testament teaching on Righteous Anger (moneychangers in the temple) contradicts that absolute claim to non-violence. Jesus is perfectly violent, intolerant and even hateful in his dealing with those that are ''desacrating'' the sacred. And that inherently (combined with Revelations, and Acts) gives succor to anything but ...

  • Re: I don't see how

...[I]t is hard to deny that this view of their religion is nevertheless an evolution of christian faith, based on reinterpretations of scripture and doctrines to accommodate modern views. This perspective might seem more cuddly and less open to attack from Hitchens and other anti-religious people but in fact it only highlights the ...

  • When Will Hitch Debate a Non-Calvinist Non-Creationist?

There are many Christians who aren't Creationists, aren't Calvinists, and who don't fuse their faith with their politics. I hope Hitch finds himself on stage with one of those one of these days. I'd offer St. Paul, Minnesota's Greg Boyd as an example: http://www.youtube.com/deepcoffee#p/u/0/3_76SlSwZU8

  • The best way to beat extremism...

One of the problems I have with tackling Islamic extremism is that most of it is rooted in other countries whereas there is a much more insidious dangerous cult on our own doorsteps that we should sort out first before we start lecturing the Muslim world about how they should be living. Whilst I agree with Hitchens on most of his points I do wish ...

  • Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor -- Says Roe Is "Settled Law"

All I need to know about today's U.S. Senate Nomination Hearing for Liberal New York City Feminist Sotomayor, is that she thinks the appalling pro-Abort ''Roe vs. Wade'' Supreme Court ''Decision'' of 1973, is ''Settled Law'' (her words.) Hispanic voters may be trending towards the Democratic Party side of the political ledger lately, and who ...

  • Science as Religion

He has religious beliefs and is also a great scientist. There is no evidence that Collins' Christian beliefs have ever limited or impeded scientific pursuits. Collins' qualifications should not be suspect merely because he holds religious views. The idea that scientists should (or CAN) have completely objective views about every facet of life ...

  • Re: Collins is brilliant, but doesn't understand ID

That's a great point. I do think, however, that the Goldilocks Enigma is a somewhat different case because none of the competing theories are currently any more testable than God is. The multiverse theory may be more scientifically compelling, but is boasts just as little evidence (as far as I know). I've also heard some wild quantum explanations ...

  • Re: Genome Project

That was definitely a factor, but competition alone wasn't going to get the job done. I recommend Cracking the Genome by Kevin Davies if anyone is looking for a good, readable history of the HGP and the private counterpart.

  • I don't know if I'm missing the point, but ...

Maybe I should just relax and enjoy the funny stuff, but I dunno ... I can't sit still for the idea that Leviticus has nothing to say to the modern Christian. The Levitical sacrifices are a tool kit for miantaining a relationship with God. Now I'm not going to get all theological and privde references all over the place but: The whole burnt ...
