  • underage Chinese Olympic contestants

Not only does China know that some of it's Olympic contestants were underage; it doesn't care if everyone knows. Cheating and stealing are part of the economic miracle.

  • A note on tipping

The author was absolutely right about the no tipping. Unfortunately, there were always some lao wai with expense accounts being an ass and spoiling the workers with tips. When the bosses and managers at these establishments got a wind of this tipping concept, some started charging a 10% ''Service fee'' on top of your bill. That money IS NOT GOING ...

  • Sexual Hypocrisy, Law Enforcement & the InterNET

Thanks for a very interesting and thoughtful article that addressed current events, came up with new approaches, and put it all together neatly in one, entertaining article. My view on those folks who would employ our law enforcement authorities to charge and convict individual InterNET users, is somewhat different. I see these forceful, legal ...

  • Protesting 2008 Olympics in China

I don't think I'll be watching the 2008 Olympics because of China's terrible record on human rights and their treatment of Tibet. Politics may be a dumb reason to many people to avoid watching this year, but killing protesting peaceful monks who just want a free state with their own laws is much worse.

  • olympics Not the place to protest

Like another commenter mentioned China is now more in a position to do better. This movement forward will be hindered by protesters who mean well, but in fact may be hindering the very progress forward they want to stimulate.

  • Beforing considering Olympic protest or boycott...

A few points I'd like to share; hopefully people will find them interesting, useful, enlightening, or entertaining:1. Has anyone with such heated opinions on this forum - for or against protest or boycott - stopped to ask how the chinese, taiwanese, or tibetan people feel about the subject, individually, in entirety? 2. Has anyone with such ...

  • hello...the athletes?

while i most certainly do NOT endorse the chinese activities in in tibet, i am appalled that the article makes NO mention of the sacrifices that all the athletes have made to get this far. Frequently their whole families have sacrificed as well for them to have this one moment. second mortgages on houses, extra jobs to pay for coaches, moving ...

  • Re: Weak logic...

Amy, If you read it, the last thing it says before the list is ''politicization,'' so yes technically she is not including Munich as a ''successful protest'' as I summarized it. However what is politicization other than the outcome of protest? My point is unchanged. The murders of Munich were not political hay, they were an act of murder, ...

  • The perfect place and the perfect time...

The 2008 Olympics is the perfect place and NOW is the perfect time to bring to light the Chinese government's oppressive and deceitful ways. Don't let the propaganda of the Chinese government fool and deceive you. It is disgusting that they are blaming the Dalai Lama for the Tibetan people's uprising. The people of Tibet have long been oppressed ...
