  • Young Children

I have young children (5 and 3) who need to get up for school, and so go to bed around 8:30. This means their dinner starts at 6:15 or so - way too early for me to make it back from work for me (wife works from home so she is there for dinner). What do others do with such young children? I know a lot of people who have much later bedtimes for ...

  • Hire Relatives instead of Talent

I can't speak for the whole country, but in my area the hiring of relatives over talent is very common. I hear a lot of ''my aunt was a teacher here for 30 years, so I never even had to sub.'' Teachers who get their jobs this way rarely worry about reprimand for poor jobs. When I sub for their classes I find lots of movies on the lesson plans. ...

  • setting up the obama stage

The curtain rises and there she is, standing under a single spotlight, center stage. She is very pregnant, just in time tor the polls to open, just in time to steal any last minute thunder McCain might offer. She is wearing a Jackie Kennedy hairdo and hat. WELL, it could happen, couldn't it?

  • Regarding the Wall-E article...

''Wall-E tells us that if we don't change the way we live, we'll all get really fat and destroy the world.'' You'll find no bigger supporter of the first amendment than me. However, I think the statement above, quoted from the article is a little biased. To me, it sounds like someone who is just looking for a reason to look down on ...

  • Unions?

In Texas, there are no teacher's unions, so I don't think all can be blamed on them. Certainly there are still bad teachers who have been on for years because it is still, in essence, a patriarchal system, but I think it's too easy to just blame the unions and say that teachers have a job for life.

  • Sexual Hypocrisy, Law Enforcement & the InterNET

Thanks for a very interesting and thoughtful article that addressed current events, came up with new approaches, and put it all together neatly in one, entertaining article. My view on those folks who would employ our law enforcement authorities to charge and convict individual InterNET users, is somewhat different. I see these forceful, legal ...

  • My daughter has learned history and women's rights from AG

As a mom, I was not thrilled with the American Girl doll books. They are not great literature and they are tied into selling the dolls. On the other hand, they have given my daughter a basic framework of understanding for American History. She also cites them to talk about how girls were treated unfairly in the past. Overall, she has gained a ...

  • Re: abusive mother

For both mordechai and Motherless Mother-to-Be, I suggest you check out the book, ''Understanding the Borderline Mother.'' Pay particular attention to the section on the witch mother. I've struggled with a mother and grandmother who have borderline personality disorder, and I suffered much abuse growing up. The scary part is that borderline ...

  • Are we overreacting?

Puberty being activated is not an indication that girls are ready to look for mates. The girls bodies and minds are not ready to reproduce and they are not prepared to make adult decisions about the risks of sex. False advertising about sexuality is risky. Women who are taught at a young age that men are the whole reason for being are hardly ...

  • father = mother?

I believe that the person who gives birth is the mother of a child. You can change the birth certificate, you can make everyone play your 'name game', you can manipulate anything else you want but the person who gives birth knows that she (not HE) is the person who lived with this human being inside her body for 9 months. It has an impact on your ...
