My reaction
I just want to add my own nickel worth, and share something that happened in my own life. I have always been a picky eater. At around ten or so I went thru a period of six months where the only things I would eat were tuna sandwiches and Swanson chicken pies. As I was a constantly underweight child, my family gave in and let me eat what I ...

Re: The Article Lie to your Children
I agree about the sneaking. I won't lie but what's in my recipe isn't really any of my eight year old's business. I think putting a few spoonsful of veggies in a whole batch of brownies is pretty useless though. As you point out, Jessica still has to give her kids whole vegetables. There's more harm in the brownies than there is health in the ...

All over some vegetables? My goodness.
Start out the honest way. Raw veggies with low fat ranch dressing. Green beans with some butter and salt. And Broccoli. But if your child doesn't get what she needs from her dinner, a litte zuchinni hidden in her mashed potatoes wont kill her. For anyone who tuned into Oprah and saw Jessica Seinfeld, the kids they tested the foods on said they ...

teach your children to like real vegetables
Sneaking food into your kids meals is just handicapping them. It's like doing their homework or picking up after them...sure it's easier but what are you accomplishing ? You're delaying precious time to educate your children.

Jessica Seinfeld
I am sure that Jessica's book was meant to provide her children with nutritious meals ''by any means necessary''. I assume she has tried the usual and is tired of the fighting...on the other hand, if you teach children to try and enjoy vegetables they will indeed love eating them. our children devour their broccoli with olive oil and lemon ...

Seinfeld not discouraging Veggies
In case you missed her promoting her book on Oprah, Jessica Seinfeld was pretty clear that she continues to give her children vegetables with every meal (normal vegetables in addition to the ones hidden in the food). She recognizes that children still need to develop a taste for and understanding of the importance of vegetables in their diets. ...

Healthy is a good thing
I have 3 children (2 grown & 1 teenager) and NONE took the time to know every ingredient in every dish I served them, especially when they were small. ALL they cared about was taste and when was it going to be ready! That is real life. Being creative is not bad. Who hasn't been sneaky when trying to get their chidren to eat healthier? I ...

Jessica Seinfeld's cookbook
Whoever wrote this article, cutting this cookbook down and making such a big deal about it, definately has too much time on their hands! They also have not experienced what it is like when your children hate vegetables from the time they had their first bite of baby food. Even though I've been putting vegetables on their plates for years, and have ...

Is It OK To Lie To Your Kids (About Food)
While I agree it's not ok to lie to your kids (not even for nutrition's sake,) I must disagree with the writer on a couple of points. I have diabetes. When I bake I substitute unsweetened applesauce measure for measure for shortening (or unsweetened pumpkin or pureed prunes, depending on the desired color/texture/flavor of the finished goody.) ...
