Hanna has lost her mind
Hanna, your so-called ''study'' on breastfeeding is nothing more than a bunch of hypotheses that the authors have put forward. In fact, I just read the study, via the link your provided, and your supposed quote from the study cannot be found in the link. Perhaps you linked us to the wrong study, but it seems unlikely. Moreover, the study you ...

income and breastfeeding mothers
I have not read the original study, but Hannah Rosin's summary suggests a confusion between association and causation. Just because longer breastfeeding mothers earned less than those who quit breastfeeding does not mean the decision to continue breastfeeding reduced income. It is just as likely that women who had decided to reduce their workload ...

A new trend
I was not impressed with Ms. Rosin's article. There seems to be a trend of well educated authors who are mother's complaining. ''The Three Martini Playdate,'' and ''The Big Rumpus'' are some books that come to mind, as well as this article. I, like many of these authors, am well educated, chose to have 2 children and work part-time from home while ...

Breast feeding and maternity leave
I can't believe that none of the writers here, and none of the American women I have ever read, have not made the connection between breast feeding and maternity leave. In Canada, I am entitled to a year's maternity leave, and maternity benefits under Employment Insurance. (As it happened, I was always between jobs when I had my babies.) ...

Right in the middle of the Breastfeeding Wars
My first child is 7 weeks old tomorrow and I have been breastfeeding her mostly successfully. I had a c-section and it took awhile for my milk to come, she lost more than 10% of her birthweight, so we supplemented for 2 days. I also had bloody nipples, but I saw a lactation consultant and got it figured out. Since those two issues, baby and I ...

Let's be very careful here
Although I thought Rosa Brooks recent XX Factor post on Sarah Palin's to-do list was humorous, it does something that I think we need to be very careful about doing--it lumps breastfeeding her son in with other examples of how she may not be fit to serve. Putting ''nurse baby Trig'' alongside list items such as ''learn about Al-Qaeda'' suggests ...

Dahlia Lithwick Uses Recipes to Write a Legal Column About..
... ABORTION. Lithwick's very idea that women do not have reproductive choice, if they cannot extinquish the life growing in their own wombs, is in and of itself faulty. I mean, my God, did the female have sex with the guy, or did she not? As to being ''for change'' in everything but pro-Abort American policies at home and abroad, not everyone ...

Government abuse of power
South Dakotas law relating to doctor patient communication and abortion: This is just another method for people using and abusing government power. They attempt to control others and legislate morality by forcing their beliefs (usually based on their religion) upon all of society. Their goal is to limit freedom and force conformity with their ...

Re: response to breastfeeding
This is fairly tricky skating we're getting on here, judging social dynamics in a breast v. bottle scenerio... how to prove quality of a relationship is difficult enough, let a relationship with an infant and adult... But really, I think this is besides the point. Not only is breastfeeding healthy, safe, and inexpensive as nourishment ...
