  • Government abuse of power

South Dakotas law relating to doctor patient communication and abortion: This is just another method for people using and abusing government power. They attempt to control others and legislate morality by forcing their beliefs (usually based on their religion) upon all of society. Their goal is to limit freedom and force conformity with their ...

  • Re: response to breastfeeding

This is fairly tricky skating we're getting on here, judging social dynamics in a breast v. bottle scenerio... how to prove quality of a relationship is difficult enough, let a relationship with an infant and adult... But really, I think this is besides the point. Not only is breastfeeding healthy, safe, and inexpensive as nourishment ...

  • Re: The Boob still wins...

Is it so important to get milk straight from the source that you would subject your infant(s) to several car trips per day just so they can eat? I suspect that the safety risk of those car trips outweighs whatever health benefit the baby gets from the breastfeeding.

  • Rethinking the health benefits of breastfeeding

I am surprised about Dr. Spiegel's article in which he discusses the immunology of breastfeeding. He presents himself as knowledgeable about immunology but has got it completely wrong. It is true that the antibodies in the milk are not absorbed into the baby's body. But that doesn't mean they are just useless bits of protein that the baby poops ...

What the hell are you talking about! This article is more a waste of time than Webkins could possibly be. Aside from being a completely inane topic, it's nearly unreadable... You're just all over the place. Stop using your thesaurus for a minute and write an actual article. Useless fodder...

  • Re: Response to Breast Feeding Article

Ignorance breeds ignorance. I think women who support breastfeeding tend to be OVERLY exuberant at times because of the abuse THEY'VE received. It doesn't make it right, but the looks I've gotten while nursing my daughters (discreetly) and the comments that have been made to me (or about me just loud enogh for me to hear) have been hurtful as ...

  • Re: Some one missed their nap!

cancun: You're right. If a mother dies, there's formula. There are also breast milk banks available to assist. wouldn't that be preferable to technology? Is an IV better that a bowl of chicken soup? concientious care and feeding of babies is more than just an aesthetic, as you put it. you're just tryng to marginalize motherwork and ...

  • Re: Some one missed their nap!

Cancun, formula is a technology. It no more violates the ''rules of nature'' than using a car instead of walking, or buying food at the market instead of hunting and gathering, or using the computer that you are using rather than carving drawings onto cave walls. There isn't anything inherently superior about things because they are ''natural''. ...

  • Re: A bad case of the Fridays?

Cancun, you should understand that while breastmilk is slightly better than infant formula in most situations (not all-- e.g., mothers who are HIV positive should bottlefeed), the emphasis is on the ''slightly''. It is quite possible to get plenty of infections as a kid despite being breastfed (I am actually an example of someone who did); it is ...

  • To the breastfeeding mom

I'm a lactation consultant and have been for 15 years. I am so sorry that this person talked to you in such a demeaning, insulting manner. I would definitely take the advice of contacting the nurse manager at that hospital and reporting this person as an abusive employee.Thisshould never be tolerated. I know that moms have reasons for doing ...
