I Care
Given the limited time I have to read fiction and non-fiction authors, I have always used book awards, particularly the Pulitzer, as a reason to give a book a try. I am rarely disappointed and very much appreciate the guidance. A great book, as opposed to a good, mediocre, or poorly written book -- is like a Mozart piece or a Beatles' song, as ...

You must read this book!!!
For all of the 'stuffed' animal lovers out there, I must recommend the book that has become my favorite book of all time...I am a School Librarian, by the way. The book is called ''The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane'' by Kate DiCamilla. I am a 41 year old, and read this book for the first time about 2 years ago...it is a wonderful ...

stuffed animal scrooge
When I think of the fun and happiness that I had with my many stuffed animals--each of which had a name and persona--during childhood, I cringe at the thought of having this author as my parent. Yes, I wished upon a star every night that my stuffed animals would come to life, and even to this day when I am fully grown up for many years, I feel sad ...

Flannophiles wanted
Thanks for recalling the brilliance of Flann O'Brien, a.k.a. Brian O'Nolan, a.k.a. Myles na gCopaleen. You won't find a funnier, nor more schizophrenic, writer in a long day's walk. I'd also recommend the compilation of his columns written for the Irish Times under the pen name Myles na gCopaleen while he was still working as a civil servant, ...

To Dmitri Vladimirovich, re Laura
Sri Dmitri Vladimirovich, by all means, consign Laura to the funeral pyre, but not before transferring the text your father left on index cards to your own sacred database. Publish a generous, Lauric précis, fruit to baying wolves, on which world-wide competition for an operatic libretto may be based. Promise prize money to be split ...

A vote not to burn
Here is my reasoning: Vladimir Nabokov left the index cards in trust of his son Dimitri's wisdom, had he not had faith in his son's ability to do justice to his father's words, his father would not have left them behind. The point of not publishing the manuscript ''as is'' in his father's name is clear and makes perfect sense; I would not want to ...

Dishing Politics
It seems a culinary revolution is afoot: mixing food with politics. Whereas some authors seem to take these things very seriously, we’ve stumbled upon a riotously funny take on politics in the book, Dishing Politics (www.DishingPolitics.com). Billed as the cure for America’s current bout of political indigestion, Dishing Politics offers a ...

Literature about Music
Rosenbaum writes of ''Amelia'': ''The song could serve as the soundtrack for the novel, or the novel as recommended reading post-'Amelia.' (Indeed, what about a series of essays that pairs great novels with a playlist of kindred songs?)'' I'm happy to announce that something very much like this is currently in the works. Time's Arrow Press ...
