Ricci Limerick
I'm behind in my reading, and I can't believe no one took Ms. Lithwick up on her invitation to find a limerick for the Ricci case, so I've surely missed the relevant thread. But I took a crack at it, and here 'tis: If New Haven's standards were too exact, Their results were sure to have disparate impact. But for poor, Mr. Ricci Will they ...

Re: New Haven-the descrimination is built in
the effect of Fixing the schools could take decades to be felt. What to do in the meantinme? Tony, how literary does a fireman need to be? If you're in a burning building do you want some bookworm coming in to carry you out or a big strong guy?

New Haven-the descrimination is built in
I used to live there and I see a difficult problem. The City is one of the poorest in the Country. The poor in the city are majority Black. they go to schools that are for the most part crap. The city population is about 50/50. The fire department and cops are 90% white. The higher-ups in the departments are 99% white. There has been a history of ...

Re: A Racist is a Black Person
Saying ''A Racist is a Black Person'' is somewhat racist itself, don't you think...since racists come in all denominations and colors? Just asking... What is more interesting, I think, is the effect that this election will have on activists and the people they represent in the black community that have consistantly used the ''victim'' ...

Simple ... pardon them all!!!
There is no problem... give them all a pardon and release them. They all have suffered enough with the torture and being held like animals. Release them and be done with it. Turn Bush and Chaney over to the war crimes tribunal that will be formed soon and that recent history of the US can be put behind us so that we can look to the future. ...

affirmative action and government work only if
Those who are in charge of it actually believe in it. Those who use affirmative action to broaden their talent base by setting up a system that forces them to look beyond their on bias and preconceived notions to find the best people benefit. Those who go through the motions to hit an arbitrary number without seeking to overcome their own ...

The Only Thing I Agree With Thomas On
He's a very dangerous man in a very powerful position. That's scary. I have disagreed with virtually every single position he has taken in his role as a Supreme Court justice. That said, his views on affirmative action are correct. African-Americans and others who ''benefit'' from this type of admission/hiring policy are really doing so to the ...

Is this the same GOP that opposes affirmative action?
McCain chose Sarah Palin for her gender and not for anything else. Choosing her for being a woman is just as bad as the opposite. I thought the GOP opposed affirmative action. Even worse, would McCain have chose Palin if he were not opposed by a black man running for President? This is a calculated, cynical choice by McCain and ...
