  • But, seriously guys, everyone does this. Bring backTP!

Ok, Slate. I've tried ''Slatest'' for the week. I've signed up for my thrice daily emails. I've given it a shot. It's ok. It's similar to what every other news aggregator does, except maybe not as well. As with other aggregators, I've seen some interesting links. But it's no TP. TP is how I start every morning. If I don't have time for ...

  • Call me a curmudgeon

I Miss TP. It had a point of view. In just a few well-written paragraphs I gleaned what an intelligent, witty, reasonably nonpartisan journalist thought was of interest in major US newspapers to reasonably intelligent readers. Though sadly newspapers those too are failing and becoming mere aggregators themselves. Investigative journalism, ...

  • Bring Back Morning Papers!

I gave it two mornings with the slatest, I tried to be open, but I want morning papers back. The prose roundup explained not just what stories were covered, but more importantly--how. Was one story the lead in all of the five majors or did each focus on something different? It also went more into the content of the important stories without ...

  • "Read Comments" link should tell you if there are any

A recommendation: Please add a comment count or even just an ''active discussion'' flag onto the Read Comments links for the Slatest. Its quite annoying to have to click through each of the stories ''read'' links to see if there is any exciting verbal sparring.

  • Ok, kill TP. I get it, BUT WHY IN OTHER MAGAZINES TOO???

The column on what's in other magazines is great -- basically defines my weekend reading most of the time. When I was living overseas and didn't have access to my precious US magazines, I used to print out stories from the web on Friday afternoon, then read over the weekend. Slate quickly became the guide as to what stories I should print -- ...

  • hate it - completely fails as a Today's Papers replacement

Today's Papers was a screenful or two of amiable prose that I could read over a cup of coffee and a bagle or something. That Slatest thing consists of 12 sentences separated by a lot of eye-crap. It's flashy, impersonal, and takes no more than 1 sip of coffee to consume completely. What an awful way to start the day!

  • Google news does it better--bring

I don't want a news aggregator. I want an edited description of what is happening. I want it in one page so that I don't have to click on links to get the gist of what is happening. ''The Slatest'' is a lot like google news, but at least I can personalize google news! Bring back Todays Papers! I've been reading it since the beginning (I even still ...
