Re: McCain-Palin's scientific view of oil exploration
Experts estimate that within our off-shore borders and Alaska there may be enough oil to support us for 60 more years. That should give us ample time to transition to other energy sources, especially if we begin shifting to nuclear energy. We would likely be in a good economic situation today if the Democrats had not outlawed oil drilling in ...

Re: I don't really see the big deal
I agree...I think it's a non-issue (me-Independant voter, not rich...). In fact, I think Slate is showing their political cards by having an article on this. These kind of articles are what justify the FOX news watchers (my mother!) into labeling the media the 'liberal elite'. On top of the fact, it's sexist. I haven't heard anything reported ...

Palin the maverick
She's the Republican's answer to Hillary - and I think if the Republicans feel that McCain doesn't have a chance this time around, why waste Palin on a campaign that isn't going anywhere, anyways? She might as well distance herself - or at least give the appearance of distancing herself, so McCain's campaign can go after what would have been ...

Sarah Palin on SNL just not funny
I didn't think Sarah Palin on SNL was funny. Isn't that why she is supposed to be on the show? She didn't do anything. I'm still not convinced that she can do anything. It was like watching the Katie Couric interview all over again. The SNL crew asked Palin to do a script and someone else ended up doing it for her --possibly because Palin couldn't ...

Palin Teenage Pregancy.
What no one is considering here is the possibility that this young girl could have been coerced/pressured by her boyfriend into having unprotected sex. She also could have been raped/incested. And given her mother's zero tolerance stance on abortion, that would mean that the possibility exists that this young girl is being forced by her mother to ...

Staggering incomprehensibility
This is truly frightening. It seems she assumes her listener shares her own inability to grasp a complete thought. Perhaps she thinks us so stupid and hungry that she need only scatter crumbled fragments on the pool of dialogue and she'll be able to rip this election right from the waters before we recognize her chum for the fisherman's lure it ...

Re: A sorry state
Curragh makes a similar point to mine, only better and more concisely, and provokes a longer, more confused reply from jsgilm. One that attempts to refute the charge of jingoistic irrelevance with a fresh dose of, er, jingoistic irrelevance. According to which, literary recognition is but ''a sort of phantom strength'', a poor surrogate for ...
