Sarahphilia (poem)
Sarahphilia In this election year, media should direct one of their innumerable polls at men with high-definition televisions. Specifically, how many hug the screen when the life-size image of Alaska governor and vice- presidential candidate Sarah Palin comes on. The tired, old (and even young) faces of most male politicians ''pale in'' ...

Her Achilles heel is ignorance
I think if we look carefully at Ms Palin's answer to Gwen Ifill's question about each candidate's Achilles heel we see a blundering about that reflects that fact that she did not know what the question meant. I do not know about the schools in Alaska, but I do know that she tried several undergraduate programs. The choice of this woman for ...

I'm always disappointed in this blog
I'm a female, a liberal, a feminist, and a regular Slate reader. I was thrilled when I first found the XX Factor. Now, I rarely read it, and every time I do, I come away angry and disappointed. Sometimes, I wonder if these writers and I are even living in the same universe. The comments about Campbell Brown's ''sexist'' rant - Did you guys ...

You Can Put Lipstick on Obama - But He's Still a Socialist!
Democrats have spent weeks accusing Gov. Sarah Palin of lying on her remarks and attacking Sarah as a bad mother and comparing her to Pontius Pilate, Islamic radicals, a whip-wielding dominatrix and to ''lipstick'' on a pig. Obama has been rattled and flustered in the weeks since ''out-of-touch'' McCain picked young Sarah Palin for VP, eclipsing ...

Not a serious candidate
Nice article, and I agree entirely. But if Palin is not a serious candidate, what does that say about Obama? Sure, McCain may be old (notwithstanding that his mother is in her 90s and still going strong), which means that Palin could be far closer to having to step into the president's shoes than any VP in a long time. But there is no question ...

Palin's got my attention - looking forward to October 2
Sometime during what seemed like a never-ending primary season, I decided that McCain and Obama's VP picks would ultimately determine my decision in the presidential election this year. After all, what I ultimately want in a President is someone whose decision-making abilities I trust. I take them both at their word when they say they love this ...

I guess I was watching a different speech
I usually agree wholeheartedly with the ladies in the XX factor, but this time I am totally puzzled by their reactions to this non-speech. To me, this speech was half an hour of nothing to say. When she finished, I was left with the sense that she substituted mocking Obama for actual answers about how to help real people. Like she didn't even know ...

Re: Never Interrupt Your Opponent While He's Making A Mistake
VP is not an advisor, VP is one heartbeat away from the Presidency. One 72-year-old heartbeat. In the end, it doesn't matter. The Republicans want us to focus on the admirable people they have running for office instead of what we should be focusing on: the Republicans have run the country into the ground for the past 8 years with failed ...
