Phelps 100 fly
I agree with William ''Mr. Olympic Crankypants'' Saletan for the most part here. Everyone I watched the replays of the 100 fly with seemed brainwashed by the commentators who kept saying ''clearly Phelps out-touched Cavic.'' The replays are not clear at all, no matter the resolution or playback speed. But I think Saletan makes a big assumption ...

underage Chinese Olympic contestants
Not only does China know that some of it's Olympic contestants were underage; it doesn't care if everyone knows. Cheating and stealing are part of the economic miracle.

Re: The Chinese gymnasts ages
Every day of the week radiologist around the World are asked to evalute bone age vs. chronologic age for children with a variety of endocrinologic problems which might case growth delay or small stature. This process requires a single X-ray of the hand. Bone age can then be determined by comparing the bone develpment with published standards ...

Olympic Games Opening Ceremony "Sweded"
When my wife learned that the opening ceremony featured computer-generated imagery, and that one girl lipsynched to another girl's soundtrack - she said: that's not cheating, they just ''Sweded'' the ceremony. (Thanks to ''Be Kind, Rewind'', q.v.)

Is Nancy Grace doing the commentary?
My wife watches Nancy Grace a lot, and I do not, but I'm in the room so I know her voice and cadence pretty well, and I have to say, whoever the lady is that is doing commentary on the diving, she sounds EXACTLY like Nancy Grace. I mean, at any moment I expect her to swtich gears from ''and look at their angle of entry into the water'' to ''and ...

Funny as the sky of greijing
I can't believe this is 2008, we've got the biggest laugh fest in Beijing, I mean, <a href=''http://www.greijing2008.com/>Greijing2008.com</a>, and people still can't get a joke. Grow up.

NBC? try CBC
For those of you living close enough to Canada, I recommend tuning in to CBC. I'm sure you'll get more coverage of U.S. atheletes actually performing and I know you'll see a lot more of the rest of the world with about 1/4 of the syropy taste. If you can't get it on TV, its online too.

Scoring NBC's Abysmal Coverage
I would consider a personal boycott of NBC's prime-time coverage if not for a new game I've invented which makes things a bit more interesting, but not necessarily more tolerable. It's called ''Watch for NBC's Coverage Reserved for Actual Performance.'' Perhaps I need a better acronym. It's pretty simple, really, but like any meta-game, it ...

Gymnastics
Please don't listen to NBC. Yes, in 1992 when 0.1 was the difference between 1st and 10th a OOB deduction was a disaster. In this code, where the focus is on racking up as much ridiculous difficulty as possible, 0.1 is a minor drop in the bucket, the equivalent of a tiny wobble on beam or a few degrees short of handstand on bars. I am tired of ...

Sap-O-Meter
I love this article!! I've always thought NBC was the worst hyping machine in all television, and this only proves it. They try to make every thing so compelling. I'm also counting the words and looking for any sappy moments. Honestly, this is the main reason I'm watching the Olympics.
