  • The President shouldn't have won, and can't turn it down

While I agree that President Obama was awarded the prize on ''atmospherics'' as Mr. Dickerson writes, giving this year's award a more speculative cast than was intended by the prize's founder, I disagree that the best course of action for Obama is to turn it down. Mr. Dickerson writes that refusing the prize would cause his ''arrogance rap [to] ...

  • Dickerson's Obama apology; John Dickerson's Pelosi indictmen

We all know Dickerson is extremely sexist, but I have to say he's outdone himself here. Femisex has posted on John's stories today and it really showcases his double standard when writing about female in office. <blockquote>Dickerson winds Obama up as the centrist/ pragmatist who needs to straddle a difficult “parking space.” Ugh! Then ...

  • Lack O Stimulus Fest

Paul Krugman is a ''pretty good'' columnist? (This may not be the exact quote, but that's the gist.) If the world had been listening to him a year or two (or more) ago, we wouldn't be in nearly the economic mess we are in now. But David Brooks writes a snarky column that you can all relate to as DC dwellers (or former dwellers), and this makes ...

  • "everybody's President"

During the Nov. 7 Gabfest Emily said something like this ''He (Obama) is everybody’s president''. Not true. For people like me, who are gay, he is not our president. Not just because he holds the standard ''separate but equal'' notion on marriage that we get from his party. But his election itself is a sign of Gay and Lesbians ...

  • Oliver Stone butchers Dickerson in W. (the movie)

I saw the preview of W. on the 10/9/08 episode of the Colbert Report (colbertnation.com or hulu.com). Not only did Stone cast an OLD man to play John, but he slaughtered John's words. His words. It's like slaughtering Shakespeare. The clip begins JOHN: Thank you sir. Mr. President, After 9/11, what would you say your biggest mistake would ...

  • John Dickerson is a twit

That is all, he holds Obama to such a high standard vis-a-vis his ''new kind of politics'' that he can't even use a little sarcasm to get his political point out - it's too mean. Seriously do these slate writers have anything better to do? Because they should try to find something.

  • Hillary's speech

As good as it could get, a great supportive gesture -- but, hey, why expect her to take the politics out of politics. No other politician is expected to do so. BTW: ''dropped a stitch?'' What's that about, John?

  • Re: Again, what is Slate's agenda?

There is plenty of favorable reporting on McCain. He is widely known for chatting with reporters, entertaining journalists, and spending his time with editors. His biography has gotten favorable treatment in the press. And yet his politics, and worse his attachment to GOP cult members, are worrisome to any rational voter. Could it be that ...

  • Re: PLEASE get rid of Plotz

Ahh, I think you're being a little unfair. Part of the pleasure of listening to any debate is hearing differing viewpoints from people who still have respect for their fellow debaters. There must be plenty of other podcasts that provide a dry recitation of statistics and analysis, the Gabfest is great because it provides opinions. The team is very ...
