My oldest younger brother
joined the USMC with the purpose of going to Nam. He was too young for the draft, but figured once he was 18, they'd send him over. (You gotta understand, my brothers and I were socialized in the military culture...our father was a lifer...and we spent most of our childhood on post/base. As teens, bought into the domino lie.) He was never sent. ...

market realization
The market took another downward slide based on the uncertainty that despite all their glorification the myriad bailout plans may simply not work. Or, if they do, there's going to be several + years of severe global recession first. During these recession years many business will fail so why put money into them now?

Arabs can't make mortgage payments
With Oil dropping from $150 to $86, they are not able to fund terrorist attacks on Israel, Barak Hussein Obama campaign fund and their harems of 10 women. Obama who is mostly Arab is sad and he is trying to defend his actions destroying the mortgage market, giving homes to his bros while making it improssible for hard working and saving seniors ...

Chrysler turns Japanese
Well this is certainly better than going under. While Chrysler may survive 'in name only' there's always a chance for a turn around.

Suicide Culture
You don’t need to be a psychologist or anthropologist to discover the source of Japan’s lemming tendency. You need only a heart and a touch of empathy. Prosperous, egalitarian, safe, and industrious: these are some of the beliefs encouraged by Japan’s modern myth makers. But scratch the surface, ever so lightly, and you’ll uncover Japan’s ...

Sirens in Japan
Nicely written piece - really digs up some of what Kurosawa was doing. However, we Westerners must also realize that lots of the effects are incidental to living in Japan. Sirens in the background, for instance, are normal in Japan - my neighborhood PA system wakes me up in the morning; air raid sirens wail at noontime; and muffled politicians ...

small differences; big differences
I dare say there are small differences betweenthe British and the American approach. I am American, but most I meet who know I don't live in the U.S.regard me as less than American. There is a huge difference in faking one'sdeath and simply escaping. I am aliveand never pretended to be dead. I like my life in JAPAN, but it could not havebeen ...

Tobacco Myopia Internationally
International comparisons, such as with the South Korean President’s position, needs consideration in a different context. Not completely sure about South Korea. However, in Japan extremely few Japanese people drive and drink -- including college students -- mainly because of severe anti-drinking laws while driving and their fear of the ...

Re: Messy Poll!
Have you ever been to Japan? Yes, I've been to Fukuoka three times. What were your favorite things?Japanese street fashion. What would you recommend? I recommend you pick up a copy of Lonely Planet for both cities, or at least for Japan. I'd also recommend taking a Lot of money. Japan is quite expensive. As for transportation, go to ...

Aren't You Missing Something?
Not one word or photo about Japanese pre-fab housing? Are you sure you researched the subject? Given the size, reach, diversity and advanced features of Japanese pre-fab (including solar heating and energy generation) I was surprised and disapointed. The fact that Japanese concepts of pre-fab (as well as space ultilization) have influanced ...
