Re: Iran for Iranians
Some historical perspective would be helpful. I'm not an expert by any measure, but in writing my recent novel, The Tehran Conviction, I came to better understand the perspective of a country that, to our Western eyes, often seems to act unreasonably and irrationally. The CIA-sponsored overthrow of the democratically elected government in 1953 ...

United States of Gringos?
How sad that the imperiousness of the West makes people change what they call their own country and language. There are dozens of countries like Iran, such as Egypt- an english word. The arabic name is Misr and has been for centuries. But the British colonizers wanted to redefine the arabic speaking world as the Middle East (British coined term) ...

Elections in Iran
First, Who is Shmuel Rosner? Secondly, as long as the United States gives preferential treatment to Israel, there will never be peace in the Middle East. Thirdly, it is important to note that Iran was on of the least extremist of Muslim nations. If you can recall, a covert CIA coup took place in 1953 against a legitimate, democratically elected ...

An Irrational Rationale for Israel Bombing Iran
This article reflects a perspective of someone who doesn't live in the Middle East and derives their information and makes decisions on paper or the internet. I live in Jordan. As someone with family and friends in Israel I supported it; now that I have lived in the Middle East over a year realize that Israel has become a rogue, military state, ...

Re: Why Israel Will Bomb Iran
This article reflects a perspective of someone who doesn't live in the Middle East and derives their information and makes decisions on paper or the internet. I live in Jordan. As someone with family and friends in Israel I supported it for most of my life; now that I have lived in the Middle East over a year realize that Israel has become a ...

Does Iran Counter-balancing Israel bring Stability?
I suppose being an Israeli nowadays is quite bleak. Warmongers dominate all politics in Israel, apparently, and normal relations with allies who are distant neighbors can be destructive for them - Georgia being such an example. I suppose it seems like increasing Israeli military actions throughout the region is the only solution to protecting ...

Who said, "Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer"
I agree that during the campaign she was remarkably racist and sexist. Both are incredibly manipulative. She is fantasic at what she does though, and brilliant. I think a lot of the abuse they ground through from the a holes of the GOP all those years made them who they are. They had to adopt an ''if you can't beat em, join em.'' I do love them ...

Thank you very much!
Anne Applebaum is right. I remember stories from my father as well as my uncle how much they appreciated the fact that they were able to listen in their Youth to RIAS and similar broadcasts behind the iron curtain. They listened out of curiosity for real news. But of course also out of love for music that was not part of the state sponsored ...

The problem with an Obama nomination
Barack Obama will make a excellent President, but not yet. He is only two, or so years out of the Illinois State legislature. He just does not have the experience to be in charge of the mighty nuclear arsenal of The United States. He proved that by his decision to vote against the war in Iraq. Yes, that sounds crazy, but realize that the ...

Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran or Just Kiddin'?
Senator McCain seems to have a lock on the Republican nomination. The Democratic race is leaning Obama, but Team Clinton has a long record of coming from behind (no pun intended). If dirt is to be dug up and thrown, Bilary and Co. will be shoveling fast and hard. So, McCain vs. Whom? If McCain does win, what happens to Pax Americana? ...
