Re: Forgiveness cuts both ways
Based on the article, it seems like Haggard is equating forgiveness with being reinstated as the senior pastor, or at least being given a second chance at leadership. I think the author is clearly correct in noting that Haggard's reception back into the community should be only as a lay person, humbly serving. On the national level, however, ...

Ernie is a genius
The dirty little secret is that our conservative powers-that-be will have to declare ''God does not exist'' to dismiss the suit.

A classic election
I think that among all the outcry on this ''historic'' election (and I accept that in some aspects it was indeed historic) we tend to forget that in terms of electoral politics, it was just a textbook one. If anything, I am reminded of Tony Blair's victory over John Major in the UK in 1997. Obama's victory follows the basic rules of elections in a ...

Re: Absolutely Deplorable
Thank you for speaking out on this repulsive practice. I am so sad for the cowardly, ignorant, face America has been showing to the world for the past 8 years. We can only hope it will end in November. Evangelical Christians are not the people I knew in my younger days. I was raised among the Brethren (Mennonite) on an Indiana farm and my ...

Re: LDS Texas Children
i'm not mormon. not even close but i hope everyone who values their freedom to worship will take a look around in their own lives and how their own beliefs have been scrutinized and tested. how far off do you all think we are from facing the same fate. this nation is moving from “a land under God” to one that puts believer’s out on the ...

I Thought Evangelicals Had Actual Principles?
Apparently not. If they're willing to support a Mormon, a member of a religion that directly contradicts several key Christian beliefs, then it is clear that they believe in their faith less than they hate Hillary Clinton (of course, the average Evangelical's capacity for hatred is itself evidence enough of their religious hypocrisy). I get the ...

Re: Why We Should Be Scared of Evangelicals
There is a really good piece on why Evangelical Christianity remains appealing in Athens & Jerusalem, a relatively new blog: http://athensandjerusalem.typepad.com/weblog/2007/09/of-guilt-and-sa.html. A few comments about some of the fine points you've made above. First, Evangelicals push their beliefs so stridently because they firmly ...

Re: Except that your friend has not
personally i have met many self proclaimed christians in my long life time... yet to this day, even as they have pointed out, they are a christian...they would be more convincing..by saying my name is human and i'm seeking.........i would ponder to think...that would be less hurtful to other's named human...than manufacturing a jesus, to justify ...
