ABOUT THOSE FOREIGN CEOs...
THESE THINGS NEEDED TO BE SAID. Daniel Gross has given us a bloody good article. Nice work, Dan. REG CROWDER http://www.RegCrowder.com http://www.journalistdirectory.com/journalist/TgTQ/REG-CROWDER

Re: More like soccer
As a huge soccer fan, that's exactly what I was thinking. One thing I haven't seen addressed is the issue of transfer fees. What if a European team only agrees to sign a US high school player for a minimum 2 (or more) year deal. Is he going to wait it out in Europe for 2 year? I seriouly doubt he wants that. Instead, he'll want to come to the NBA ...

Only for the kids with bad grades...
Given the success of Rose & Oden & others making the NCAA finals during their ''year'' of college, plus the dominance of one-and-dones in the 1st round of the draft, I don't see most kids choosing to leave behind their entire communities and support systems to go hang out in Croatia for a year. The year of college makes them that much more ...

Historic Origins of European Racism
While people of color living in Europe may not be descended from slaves who lived in Europe, the vast majority are descended from people oppressed by European nations. Many of them are descended from slaves who lived in captivity in many of the colonies of England, Portugal, the Netherlands and other European powers who operated and grew rich ...

European Racism Evident in Football Fans
The better measure of European racism towards minorities is evident in the ongoing problems that European football fans have towards African, Afro-European, Arab and Jewish, and Asian athletes. Racism from football fans in Spain: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4024167.stm Racism from football fans in Germany and Italy is ...

Thank you very much!
Anne Applebaum is right. I remember stories from my father as well as my uncle how much they appreciated the fact that they were able to listen in their Youth to RIAS and similar broadcasts behind the iron curtain. They listened out of curiosity for real news. But of course also out of love for music that was not part of the state sponsored ...

RFE \RL
Couple of points to amplify the theme of the column. i) RFE (Radio Free Europe) also includes Radio Liberty (RL), which broadcasts to non-European countries. ii) The Czech crown reached 42 per dollar in 2002 -- now it hovers around 17-18 crowns per dollar. That is, the buying power of a dollar has been more than cut in half. iii) The ...

The loss of Zimbabwe and South Africa to the Reds . . .
. . . compares favorably with the loss of Afghanistan, Tibet, Hong Kong, and China to the Socialist/Communist ideologues elsewhere. Of course, the Anglo-American world Realpolitik has suffered it's share of losses to Right Wing Ideologue regimes, as well. Look no further than France, Italy, and Iran among others. We could even mention America in ...

Bosnia was EUROPE's failure, not the US
Hitch is right about the Clintons, but that's old news. If you haven't gotten them yet, you stopped thinking ten years ago. But Hitch is wrong on Bosnia. He might call it lying by omission. The big omission is the devastating failure of half a billion (yes) Europeans to take any responsibility for the Balkan massacres. The Balkans are in Europe. ...
