  • How old was Chanel?

Wait, I'm still confused. The HTML Title on this page says, ''How we know that Chanel, the world's oldest dog, was really 147 dog-years old.'' The article says, ''Chanel is about 113 dog years old.'' If you use the AVMA's formula described in the article, Chanel should be about 119 dog years old (15+9+(5*19)=119, where 19 is the number of ...

  • The Science of Dog Years

Dog years not seven to one? Lets consider the Scientific facts. One Light Year is approximately seven trillion miles. One Dog Light Year is precisely one trillion miles. I'm doing the math. Yep, seven to one. That's not just facts. That's Astrophysical facts!

  • Designer Dogs

On the bright side, it's the best example of Darwin at work that we have. The only difference is that we're the ones making the decisions instead of the ambient environment random chance. Over generations we have selectively bred the characteristics we dislike out of dogs and promoted the ones we do like. Natural selection does the same thing ...

  • Pedipaws shown in bad light

I just got done seeing the review for Pedipaws. This is one of the poorest reviews that I've ever seen. This review is based on average people that obviously cannot control their animals. Anyone who is at all familar with dog behavior can see the dog that nearly bites the woman, when she tries to trim his hind legs has NOTHING to do with the ...

  • Charitable contributions

Does a $5.2 billion bequest to support the welfare of dogs qualify as philanthropy? The roots of the word are ''phil'' (loving) + ''anthropos'' (mankind), and it means ''the effort or inclination to increase the well-being of humankind, as by charitable aid or donations'' (American Heritage Dictionary).

  • thanks for that link...

i'm a frequent visitor there, but never caught that entry. there are better ways to socialize young family members without intimidation. dogs are social...they learn from mom and dad, just as human children do...and if mom and dad are mean bullies to those weaker than they, the dog learns to bully those who are weaker than he.

  • Race matters when athletes race.

Look, I'm not saying race being black makes you automatically fast or strong. I'm saying the so-called $%& gene is more likely to be found among blacks. Why is it that tiny Jamaica produced faster runners than all of China(1.3 billion), Japan(100 million), Koreas(65 million), Taiwan(25 million), etc? Of course, not all Jamaicans are fast, ...

  • What's your solution?

I know this article is old, but nobody commented, so here goes.Does your state not have leash laws? Assuming it does, the old woman possibly broke them. The Pekingese was not properly restrained and probably could have benefited from a harness instead of a collar. I'll admit that I'm the owner of a rescued pit bull (currently undergoing ...

  • Thank You!

I'm sitting here contemplating whether to put my 17 year old American Eskimo Malone down. He has endured a number of significant events in his long life, Parvo as a pup where we fed him 7up out of an eye dropper; a recent rattlesnake bite that he miraculously survived; and old dog disease that when another dog would come around on our walks, he ...

  • Uneasy about dog

Wow, you had to say it was a pitbull. Was your readership down? I guess you needed that as a headline grabber. I know you metioned bassett hounds but would you have responded so strongly if the dog was say, a lab or a cocker spaniel? By the way, labs and cocker spaniels are number one and two in the most dog bites. Did you even have to say it ...
