The Wire
Why it ended with McNulty
Simon IS McNulty. Landsman's ''elegy'' said all that need be said. Jimmy is uncompromising, devoted to dogged pursuit of the truth, consequences be damned, and as often as not he was damned right back. And I think that's exactly how Simon sees himself (and I for one agree and respect him enormously for his willingness to take so many ...

A fanfare to the The Wire, The best television series ever.
The wire was actually the worst television series on television, but that's exactly what made it so amazing. It was more like an unwritten novel adapted to be broadcast as a television series. It even seams that if The Wire had a novel to base on it wouldn't have ruined it the way most television series do, trying to simplify the story, ''cutting ...

Clay Davis and "sheee-it"
I don't know if the guys already got the answer to this but according to the commentary on 25th Hour by Spike Lee the actor Whitlock came up with this as an ad-lib. He's also from my hometown of South Bend, Indiana. Acknowledge this!

why season 5 is weak
I think it's perfectly reasonable to concentrate criticism on the Sun/serial killer sub-plot. First, because this is what the series' creators chose to focus on this season, this is their final big ''what we have to say''. Second because it is, quite clearly, a weak and flawed story which does not meet the extremely high standards ''The wire'' has ...

this paper is not parallel
I believe I may have discovered why the portion of the Wire set at the Sun doesn't ring true. It may not have anything to do inherently with the depiction of the newsroom, but rather that the story here is depicted differently than the rest of the series, and that the rest of the series is depicted the same. That is, ''The Law,'' ''The ...

Re: Bring Back James and Kotlowitz
Snooze guys. I used to love this slate feature but you are letting us down here. Please beg off of the journalist on journalist porn and maybe just take in the context of a story, which is what it is. Just because the media (wink) decided to make The Wire a messianic deliverer of urban truths doesn't mean it isn't, in the end, just a beautifully ...

Media on media porn
I guess I should have seen this coming given that the new season deals with the media but i'm getting bored with media folks hijacking this new season to claim defense of, nobility for their profession. I'm sure the cops, dealers, teachers, and even long shoremen have complaints too but since those worlds are infinitely different and more foreign ...
