  • A great cause, but don't blame the Dutch

Mr. Hitchens is a great intellectual and his words have a global appeal. Ayaan Hirsi Ali is doing great work in striving for humanism, feminism, and against brutality. Now who can be against that? Not me. And, sorry for my high school English by the way. But working for a great cause doesn't mean you don't have to have to facts right. Mrs. Ayaan ...

  • Thank you very much!

Anne Applebaum is right. I remember stories from my father as well as my uncle how much they appreciated the fact that they were able to listen in their Youth to RIAS and similar broadcasts behind the iron curtain. They listened out of curiosity for real news. But of course also out of love for music that was not part of the state sponsored ...

  • Outing the Neo Cons at Slate

This is really simple: try to identify with sources who is a Neo Conservative and whether they recieve $$$ cash/money from Neo Con overlords to propagate their ideas. First, Anne Applebaum, Slate contributor and Washington Post columnist is a Neo Con. She is an adjunct scholar at the American Enterprise Institute: teh foremost think tank and ...

  • hirsi the puppet

“The Infidel Europeans Love To Hate Ayaan Hirsi Ali should be a role model for Muslim immigrants. By Anne Applebaum” Why did you write this – this hirsi creature is an atheist – how can she be a role model for Muslims? Are you saying we should all become ex-Muslims like this uncle Tom of a woman?

  • Krebs Can't Shake Imperial Thinking

It seems like so many pundits, thinkers, politicans, and leaders in America just can't shake the mindset that America must advance its interests abroad through conniving double talk, backstabbing hypocricy, and cutthroat manicheanism. Its like the abuser that beats his kids, realizes its wrong, but resorts back to beating them because it just ...

  • Re: moderation is extremism

princesswonderful: we have to acknowledge that there is absolutely no earthly authority who can ideologically police actions which bear the marks of religious interpretation or carry a claim (however irrational by empirical standards) of divine mandate. moderate religious practice (of all faiths) only further entrenches the dangerously ...

  • My check is in the mail

Thanks, Mr. Hitchens! My check, made out to the Ayaan Hirsi Ali Securitry Trust, is going out in the mail today. Let's do all we can to support this noble woman. I think it speaks volumes that she has chosen to live in the United States.

  • Why I don't side with Hitch even when I agree with him

Hitchens has always been a complete ass about things that people have a genuine disagreement on (Iraq War, anyone?), leaving one the impression that if you don't see it his way you're a lunatic. So it's no surprise when he writes on a topic like protection from terrorists -- a subject I agree with in theory -- I still find myself playing ...

  • The Dutch gov has been paying for her protection

Hirsi and Hitchens? Ecce quam bonum, et quam iucundum habitare fratres in unum, i.e. ''behold, how good and joyful a thing it is, for brethren to dwell together in unity.'' Ah, let us recall a few things, please: Ali did not legitimately receive Dutch citizenship, i.e. she gave false information about her real name, her age and the country ...

  • Hirsi Ali and the cheap Dutch

Different than the title of this reaction might suggest, I would like to make some counter-remarks against the seemingly wide-spread opinion in the US about the 'cheap Dutch' who wouldn't be willing to pay for the 'modern day Voltaire' Ayaan Hirsi Ali. There's the issue of paying as an item in itself. The Dutch state at this moment pays for quite ...
