Neo Con Claptrap for Georgia and Zion
It was excruciating reading Ms Applebaum's diatribe given that her Neo Con world vision was so transparently encased in mantras meant to excite the gullible reader. , Russia is still the Soviet Bear from the north set to devour free nations? Russia is still waging an ideological struggle? August 2008 is like August 1968 and the Soviet ...

Zionist Propaganda for The "Shire" of East Europe?
All the hoopla about saving Georgia from the terrible Russian juggernaut, like Georgia is Tolkien's ''Shire'' and its folksy way of life is in jeopardy- where is it coming from? Here on Slate and at the Washington Post, the commentary called for American action to protect Georgia from Russia. Anne Applebaum, Neo Con, American Enterprise ...

Re: Who are the "Europeans"?
''A major European war is now unthinkable.'' A major achievement. Still, I agree with Anne Applebaum. I know the EU is a huge gamble (if nations start voting in blocs and playing power politics games, the EU should be dismantled), and enormously complex. Presently, I think the foreign ministers should deliberately move, and quickly, to make it ...

Re: Why does Europe matter?
Europe matters for a few big reasons: Europe is almost completely democratic (the major exception being Lukashenko's Belarus.) Europe practices regulated capitalism. Europeans stand up for press freedoms and individual liberties. In other words, Europe is how we'd like to see the world develop, in the face of a world full of authoritarian ...

Re: Unbelievers ≠ believers: it is as simple as that, but...
ookami: You honestly see nothing wrong with encouraging hate in schools? Let’s say there was this hypothetical guy who was going around killing people of a different religion and teaching all the kids to do the same. Would you sit back and say, ''not my buisness''? We did this before. It was called the Holocaust. Your cultural relativist ...

European Racism Evident in Football Fans
The better measure of European racism towards minorities is evident in the ongoing problems that European football fans have towards African, Afro-European, Arab and Jewish, and Asian athletes. Racism from football fans in Spain: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4024167.stm Racism from football fans in Germany and Italy is ...

Burma, Oil, & Neo Cons
Connecting the global crusade for control of oil and the faction within Washington called the Neo Cons is fairly simple today. Thus, there is no surprise that Anne Applebaum makes a case for intervention in Burma. She is an operative of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). The AEI is the leading Neo Con think tank in Washington and includes ...

Hey Ann: Your Neo Con American Empire is not Easy to Run
Dear Ms Applebaum, I feel distressed that your neo-conservative vision of the American world empire causes you to crinkle your brow in concern. Other than allowing Ms Applebaum to frame discourse in her Neo Con worldview, here is an alternative insight into American meddling in Georgia and Abkhazia from The American Conservative ...

Thank you very much!
Anne Applebaum is right. I remember stories from my father as well as my uncle how much they appreciated the fact that they were able to listen in their Youth to RIAS and similar broadcasts behind the iron curtain. They listened out of curiosity for real news. But of course also out of love for music that was not part of the state sponsored ...

Applebaum's Myopia
Last I checked some months ago, Ms Applebaum is adjunct fellow at the AEI, the chief Neo Conservative supra-corporate backed think tank which has engineered much of pres Bush's policy both domestic and some foreign. Immediately, Ms Applebaum's slant has to be approached cautiously. Then, the only 'expert' on Turkey she references is Zeyno ...
