Contrast Ferraro's and Jeremiah Wright's Words
by jkhooah

Immediately following Geraldine Ferraro’s remarks were the
outrageous comments of Jeremiah Wright regarding our country, government, and white people. Let the readers be the judge as to more hurtful of the two. Wright's venom is well known and tolerated at the Trinity United Church. Our First Amendment allows this speech, however repugnant. Its time for African-Americans to repudiate this racist and his rants.

There is a big difference between hateful, ignorant comments and racism.

Wright did not make a single racist statement. If you think differently, post the exact text.

A racist statement must:

1. associate a personal quality to a person's race.

2. repeated many times by by persons outside of the target race.

3. have the power to diminish all members of the target race.

4. have a history of providing a 'reason' to discriminate against the target race.

If someone calls me the N word. I get to laugh, and wonder what is wrong with that person. Maybe they are insane. Unfortunately, African Americans can't laugh.

If someone called my wife the B word. She can get upset, but it is only directed at that one person. Anyone overhearing this sexist slur would only think that this person had a problem with my wife, not with all women.

Ferraro's comment was explained by her on one of the talk shows. She said that Hil and Obama were even, someone asked why they were even. She said it wasn't because of experience, since Hil has more; it wasn't because of their ideas, because those are the same. So it must be race. To her, there are only three qualities: experience, ideas, race.

But she also advanced the 'delusional Obama supporters' theme. People must have an irrational reason for supporting Obama, and the only one she could think of was his race.

And her comment also was an attempt to diminish all the wins Obama has had. If it wasn't for the irrational support for Obama, Hillary would be ahead, in other words, the Obama momentum wouldn't exist if there wasn't this irrational support, so, stop jumping on the bandwagon to support him.

When you state over and over that WHITE men are the only ones who run this country and are responsible for all it's problems, you are a racist. Stating that ONLY WHITE men are responsible for the problems of the country singles out a particular race in a negative way and is a racist comment. We have black leaders in all sectors of society and government. Some are men and some are women. We also have black people of both genders in this country who are multi millionaires. It is clear that Rev. Wright is a racist and it greatly bothers me that Obama states that he will always be friends with this man and he still intends to go to that church. I am appalled that someone who may be president of the USA will be attending the kind of church that supports Libyan rebels, Farrakhan (who says Hitler was a hero) and against Israel. A church that is anti-white and anti-American. This is a fact and not just a blog trying to "dirty" Obama. He is doing that himself. He wants to restructure America from within and that is frightening because he will pick who is good and who is bad and that reminds me of Germany when Hitler decided the rich Jews were bad. Hence, note that Rev. Wright said that rich white men were bad. Yeah, this man is scary.

If you are "hurt", "diminished" or otherwise offended by what someone says, that says more about you than about what the person said, believed or intended. If you go looking for "racism" you will find it, guaranteed.

That does not take away from the fact that a man who may be the President of the United States GOES to a church that advocates anti-white and anti-American sentiment. I don't care if the man is a lovely shade of green, purple or blue, I don't want him for president.
