Obama affirmative action at Harvard
by Bill45

Obama claims he has no way of knowing if he was a benficiary of affirmative action in his admission to Harvard.

Please. Its unimaginable the media let this whopper of a fib pass without question.

Obama certainly knows what his own undergrad GPA, clsas rank and LSAT scores were. He also very likely knows, or could easily find out, what the average and mean GPA, LSAT, and class ranks were for HLS admittees in the Fall 1988 when Obama was admitted.

The greater the disparity, if any, between Obama's numbers and the other admittees, the greater the factor that affirmative action played in HLS' decision to admit him.

This phenomenon was litigated in the U-Michigan affirmative actions cases. In certain GPA/LSAT score percentiles Af-Am students were virtually assured of admission where white students with virtually the same numbers were certain to be denied.

So what's the point? Was he affirative action'ed into Chief Editor of the law review? Do you say he's lying? Why?

Anyway, as an Obama supporter I'd be interested to hear his views on affirmative action. Anyone know?

I don't think you want to explore this arena with a Repub who was a "fifth from the bottom" graduate AND a legacy admission to the Naval Academy and a Democratic rival who failed the bar the first time and was not at the top of her class at Yale.

Women were and are the greatest beneficiaries of Affirmative Action so you would have to look at the comps in a gender specific fashion also.
