Did Ferraro say that black people are too inferior to be president? Did she call Obama a "nigger"? Did she dress up in black face and ask for some watermelon and fried chicken?

Obama's been going around telling us all he has these "gifts" that make him uniquely qualified to be president, Ferraro wonders out loud if these unique "gifts" might be his skin color, b/c it's unique to have a black man thisclose to being president. She then goes on to explain her qualifications for making that argument b/c she was picked for VP, the uniqueness being female. Are we not allowed to ask Obama what his "gifts" are? Are only allowed to give him praise and tell him how wonderful his speeches are b/c if we think Ferraro is man-handling him now, so help us when the Republicans attack in November.

Well I'm bi-racial and don't think Obama and I don't see how Obama provides anything new, I don't buy into his rhetoric and I sure as hell won't vote for him b/c he's the same race as I am.

The fact is, whenever there is an issue that Obama and his maniacs don't like they just want to name call and avoid the real substance of the issue, i.e. Ferraro wondering if his special gifts might actually be limited to the fact he's black.

Do try to stop being offended long enough to look at the facts. It's not a personal swipe at you it's a swipe at a system that has pit human being against human being.

Realize what "whiteness" means. Understand that Italian, Irish, Jewish people are not "white" by the truthful and historical definition.

Understand that the charming oasis know as "ethnic enclaves" were intentionally created to keep "non-white" people out of "white" communities.

Understand that those "ethnic" communities became white by a specific process that had nothing to do with them being rotten human beings en masse, but from their understanding that anything was better than being black in America.

Once you educate yourself, the truth is not quite so painful. Sure it stings a bit, but at least you know that you have the power to stop the cycle of history repeating itself.

Racism is indeed not limited to feelings of superiority or hatred: it's making judgements about people's character, qualifications, etc. based exclusively or even primarily on the way they signify racially.

I say "signify" because race is not an objective category, but a socially constructed category. Obama is just as much a white guy as he is a black guy. However because he "looks" "black" he is therefore "black."

Ferraro implied much more than that he gets support because of his race (this much is true). She implied that this is the only quality he has, and the only REAL reason people support him, and she has said explicitly that he wouldn't have gotten as far had he not been black. These are all extremely dicey (and demeaning) propositions.

Please don't be naive and think that her comments are not part of the political calculations of the Clinton team. The comments are racist because they are intended to move middle class whites to vote for Hillary instead of the black guy. Just like the old wedge politics of the Republicans from States rights to the Welfare Queen to Wille Horton to they gave the job to the minority.

Irvingchang: you are completely wrong. There are DEGREES of racism, of course. But racism contains not only supremacists (which is like the ultimate racism), but also demeaning or making judgements about others exclusively based on race. You don't have to hate anyone to be "racist." Racism is a discourse of power, and as such it can be utilized by anyone. Just like sexism is not merely the belief that men are "better" than women. Get it?
