Racially based but not racist
by bushwacker00

Ferraro's comments weren't dumb. If you can state that a white man with the same experience would be in the position Obama is in, then YOU are naive or stupid. And, if we cannot comment on how race factors into a campaign or life, then we will NEVER get past this racial bull. People are voting for Obama because he is black just like people are voting for Hillary because she is a woman. Claiming that it is racist or genderist for mentioning that fact is not helping the discourse of America when it is true.

If no one voted for Obama because he is black, then Ferraro's statements would be dumb and racist. If many other white politicians we able to become a mainstream candidate with little national political experience, then Ferraro's comments would be dumb. But, this isn't remotely the case.

You got it. Obama's camp mis-fired on this one.

Amazingly short memory you guys have. Hillary had the black vote until recently. Did she formerly have darker skin or something?

Ever consider that "experience" isn't what the American people are basing their votes on? If that were the case there would be no need for speeches and talk shows and debates and TV commercials. Each candidate submits their resume and people read them in the newspaper and vote accordingly, eh?

Ever consider that people feel inspired when they hear Obama speak? That they like the vision he presents on how government should work? Until recently Obama's support was almost entirely among younger liberal whites. Obama's skin didn't "put him in this position" it was his political skills. It was Hillary and Bill's boneheaded public slights of black leadership that gave Obama the black vote, not his skin color.
