I'm not sure that they should be made permanent, but I do know that rolling them back now won't help with the recession. Even if only the tax cuts on "the rich" are repealed, rich people are consumers too.

I'm not sure I see your logic. In the few years they have been enacted, the economy has gone in the crapper. At the least, I think that show the need for a new strategy, rather than an extension of the same policies.
