Ferraro's truthful statement
by Debalee

Excellent observations, Mr. Kaus. The Obama camp is trying to pay back for the "monster" comment by Samantha Powers last week by going full bore against Geraldine Ferraro's truthful statement of fact. A rookie politician like Obama, if white, would have dropped out of the race by now. Her comment was a "800 pound gorilla in the living room" or "the Emperor has no clothes" kind of comment. Everyone knows that it's true. Some just prefer to use it as a cudgel against the Clinton campaign as payback for the Samantha Powers resignation. Finally, here's what I would like to tell Mr. Andrew Sullivan: If "rebranding America" to impress Islamist terrorists is what this country needs then we'd best elect a full blooded Muslim as POTUS. Such a person's face would thrill the world of Islam to no end. They'd throw down their weapons and rejoice all over the world. Yeah, right...dream on. The idea that electing someone based on their "face" appeal to the rest of the world is a mound of equine excrement, Mr. Sullivan.

Yes what she said was partly true. Being black did help with black voters. Its is also true that being white helped Hilary in Texas and being female helped Hilary in Ohio. Why were not these "truths" raised by Ferraro?

Lets be real. Veteran politicians do not go on multiple televsion stations, just to speak the "truth" because its true. They go on multiple TV stations because they feel it is in their interest or the interest of those they support to do so. Ferraro is not guilty of being a racist. She is guilty of thinking the American people are stupid enough to buy into her sales pitch.

What is REALLY helping Hillary is that she is Bill Clinton's wife. Without that, she wouldn't even be a Senator.

On the other hand, Obama's record as a first-term senator, his maturity and judgment visible in "The Audacity of Hope", and his ability to inspire and lead all kinds of people, are light-years beyond any "rookie" politician. Obama is anything but ordinary. His ONLY sin is that he isn't Anglo-Saxon.
