Fallon - The Great Escape
by RMarigny

Hooray for ADM Fallon!!! He took his oath to the Constitution, not the president. He may have felt that by sacrificing his career, he could slow a rush into another war. He may have just had enough of being forced to factor in domestic politics when deciding strategy. We've grown used to the bureaucratic general whose loyalty is to his superior, but not his subordinate troops.

Sure, flag rank is political. Before it begins, any comparison between MacArthur and Fallon ignores MacArthur's lust for celebrity at the expense of his troops.

I suspect ADM Fallon looks down the road of history and sees that by speaking out of turn now, he will be spoken well of later.

What does the Constitution say about who commands the military? I recall that it says the President is the Commander-In-Chief of the military.

Fallon was insubordinate to the Commander-In-Chief. Fallon violated his oath to the constitution by doing so!

Sometimes you do what you have to do, then pay the price for it.

MacArthur and Billy Mitchell both did it. I was merely stating that Fallon was not supporting his constitutional duties.

Agreed.

As an aside, Congress had their Constitutional duty back in 2002 not to vote for a resolution that gave the President the unrestricted power to declare war at his discretion. None of them resigned for it. How do you feel about that one?

Congress declared war plain and simple. They had access to the exact same information The president did and most of them saw it the exact same way.

My problem is with those who voted against this war not those who voted for it.

"Declared war"???? Doesn't Texas require books or newspapers in classrooms? You constant attempts to revise facts seems a bit "Un-American" and more "Stalinist", but who counts "fact".

And has for the "same information" . . . any literate person picking up any news since 9/12 would know that Congress was spoon fed BS and half facts . . no doubt you still beleive Colin Powell's UN Presentation?

My problem is not with those who voted for the war, but those that lied us into it.
