More Stupidity with Sheee-it
by Ilyas

The writers and editors continue to think that drawing out the word ala Clay Davis is somehow a new thing.

Have they never met a Black southerner? That word, used that way, has been around for as long as many of our families can remember. But to these fools it's a hollywood thing.

Stupid culture vultures.

I've come to accept, and even embrace, the pure incompetence of Plotz and Goldberg. Trying to fight it is like trying to get the BPD to stop playing the stats game. It's much easier to laugh it off and then converse with actual fans of the show on the forums.

More annoying than the occasional memory lapse from these guys is the goddamn incessant bitching about it on this board. The fan-boys that have flooded the site since Post 1 run their mouths like scorned exes. I'd gladly read the casual bantering and reactions (whether insightful or not) between two dudes who really like the show and writing I generally enjoy, than the annoying posts of 'actual fans' who 'get' the show and snub their noses at anybody who can't recall the 13 second scene in season 2 episode 7 at 44:28. This isn't a knock on serious analytic criticism but christ people, that clearly isn't the aim here.

In short, get bent.

Yeah, except that what I said had nothing to do with "knowing" the show.

It was about not knowing that Black folk stretch out the word shit when making a point.

But thanks for the jerkiness anyway.

Ha! My thoughts exactly. Apparently Cocaine Buy Me Everythang can't take a little joke at the expense of the bloggers. Oh well.

Nothing makes me crazier than hollywood appropriating black slang and then acting like it's something new the "It" crowd just came up with to entertain themselves. (The same thing happened with Punked. I was floored.... FLOORED to see an expression I heard almost everyday of my black life for 25 years or so suddenly seized and conquered and iconized by ....Ashton Kutcher ....of all white things). It's one thing to appropriate a culture and it's dialect, quite another to take credit. It makes me crazy... almost like discovering spanish all the sudden and then making a movie about it like "oye! Y'all hear dat?? Dats somethin we call ESPAN YOOOOL. It's the crazy new way to talk y'all!! Andale Andale Arriba!!!" and lo, a chorus of pasty white hands hi-fiving from coast to coast. GROSS!
