She probably blames the woman when they are upset about being raped, or when a woman is beaten for 'choosing that man' Whatever she is, its not a feminist. She's more of bitter old lady who thinks everyone should be exactly like her.

I'd say she's more angry than bitter. And, based on her writings, her anger is more the sort of a person roughly shaking and yelling into the face of someone about whom she cares, but whose choices are (she feels) ultimately hurtful.

Hirshman truly believes that it is better for women and ultimately for society and men if highly-educated women stay in the workforce, even against their own inclination.

There's something non-Western (and certainly non-American) about her emphasis on communal/social good over and above above the individual desire to devote one's daytime hours to one's children.

She'd fit in well in Communist China: dictating to half a billion women her one-child-and-get-back-to-work­-for-the-good-of-the-people philosophy.

I find it odd that she (Hirshman) seemed genuinely hurt and surprised that American women strongly objected to her fascist inclination to tell them what to do.
