new idea for politics: Contract Law!
by SlaterBait

Wouldn't it be great not to have to trust all the BS the politicians feed us? We regularly end up electing rich people (or people connected to rich people) who have no financial stake in doing what they promised.

The "political contract" under our laws now only has one penalty for failure to deliver: the lousy politician MAY not be elected to a new term. THIS IS A VERY WEAK PENALTY, especially to a rich or richly connected politician!

Corzine can run up/down the parkway at 100 MPH for no good executive reason (not wearing a seatbelt at that) and nearly kill fellow citizens obeying the law and driving at legal speeds.

Spitzer can (almost) get away with a very similar list of offenses to those he prosecuted just a few year ago in Wall Street, laundering money so as not to expose his weakness for sex... I guess he just need to "relax" and "clear his mind" in preparation for the hard work of the next day. Yea.

So all this fooling around, flaunting the laws that the rest of us live by... or at least try to.... gets them, precisely, what?

Any wonder we listen to politicians and totally discount all they say? Why not vote for "hope"??? Voting for policy commitments on a basis of trust in the "integrity" of the candidates sure hasn't paid off!

Idea: demand the politicians sign a REAL contract when they run for office. Let the platform be considered the "deliverables". Let the office term be the "delivery schedule". And best of all, let the candidates personal fortune back the commitment by being subject to "liens" upon failure to deliver as per the contract.

Then we'd have some serious thought given to the nation's problems! ...fewer promises, more honest (money backed) commitments!
