"Carcetti's a dirty scalawag"?
by kgsbca

He made lots of deals for purely political reasons, almost all of which any mayor or wannabe governor in this country would do. I'm not condoning them, I think that's one of the problems with our government, but saying he is any different than any other politician is absurd. Every mayor (except for Bloomberg, who doesn't do anything for purely political reasons) and governor make deals like he did.

So call him a scalawg if you want, but go find me another politician who isn't. Some of them may start out with integrity, but they all fall in love with their jobs, and seem to do anything to keep them. They suck.

Elliot Spitzer, anyone? Wasn't he supposed to be squeaky clean? And Rudy G before him? Guiliani went after the Mafia like a modern-day Elliott Ness and he turned out to be almost as sleazy as the Mob guys he went after. Not sure if it's life imitating art or vice versa. But for those people watching the Wire and saying "oh, that could NEVER happen". Uh, yes it could and yes it does.

While most politicians are just corrupt or dishonest, Spitzer belongs in the Craig family of hypocrites. Criminalizing actions that are among the most basic human needs, just because they want to impose their own religious beliefs on the rest of society, and then performing those same "immoral" acts themselves, deserves its' own special category of scumbag. While hypocrisy itself is not as damaging to society as selling out your city, state, or country to keep your job, it should be unacceptable in a government official.
